I have a GT5000 with the Briggs engine and have a few things to share. 1) Traction-the GT series do not have a limited slip or locking rear-end so you get wheel spin on one side in slippery stuff. It does not take much to get the wheel to spin...uneven wet ground, patch of mud, snow, etc. The only time I get good traction is with weights and chains. 2) Comfort-I find GT to be a little small for my size and the step through design is a bit tight compared to the John Deeres. 3)The Kohler engine has a history of smoking...look in the Gardenweb website and you will find numerous persons complaining of smoking engines. I asked the Sears guy about it and he told me that Sears gets a slightly different version of the Kohler engine and they have had problems with the gaskets. I'm not a mechanic, so I only know what I read and what I was told. Other than that, I really like my GT and got a good deal on it. I've only had it less than a year though, so time will tell how well it holds up. For the price, how do you beat it? The other competitors are double and triple the price. Also, the Husqavarna's are basically the same as the Craftsman. Good luck...look up more info on the gardenweb site.
