I have fixed the problem I had in the earlier post, now the mower cranks and spins. I had noticed that the gear (I think its called the flywheel ring gear) was worn a little. The previous owner did not have the starter tight, guess it worn down. I have used the mower for a 1 1/2 years. I guess the gear is now too worn, starter gear doesn't catch at all. How hard is it to get the flywheel gear off? And are there any special instructions or tools needed? I consider myself fairly handy.

Thanks.

dmk, howdy
I may be over complicating things a bit , But could it be that the mower has the incorrect starter on it? misaligned... or

If it isn't engaging because of teeth worn on the starter or flywheel might need a new gear on the starter and if you need a new ring gear on the flywheel ,you will more than likely need a puller for that, check with your local (if you have one) mower repair shop for the info...They might even loan you one if your going to buy the new ring gear from them... One could always hope:)

It should be the right starter. It has been working fine for the almost two years that I have had it. The starter gears look fine to me. I'll pull the starter tonight, and reinstall it to make sure it is snugged up as close as possible.

Thanks for the info.
