Need help deciding on a purchase

There is a guy here local that is selling a Woods pull behind PTO powered mower with a 6' deck. I am not familiar with these and he says it is an older model and NOT a 3pt. Is anyone familiar with this type mower and is $250.00 a good price if it is in good shape? I will be using the L3240 with it. I am going to look at it on Sunday. Any help as always is appreciated.

Someone is likely to have more info on this, but a guy not more than a mile from me bought something simliar for an older JD with no three point hitch. This was only a couple of years ago and I did see it in operation and it worked pretty well. However, without a three point setup, it seemed like a little bit of a hassle to work with in that he could not lift it off the ground to avoid obstacles. He bought his brand new (sorry, I just can't recall the brand) and paid well over 1K for it.

Thanks Paul, that helps me a lot. I was thinking that picking the mower up for backing would be handy, not to mention to get over rocks and such. I appreciate your input, I will give this mower a pass and wait and get the finishing mower I was looking at. Thanks again.

A friend of mine has both a 3pt. and a pull behind brush cutter and he prefers the pull behind as long as he has room to manuever.

If you have a drawbar that mounts on your lower 3 point arms, then you can raise the pull type mower. If you have a remote cylinder on the mower, you can set the mowing height as well. Some people like them because they seem to follow the contours better. But as was said, backing and turning is not as precise as with a 3 point mower.
