I was using my friends 5103 this weekend to clear some shooting lanes.
The tract had been logged in the not too distant past. In 3 hours of use I managed to cost myself some money and damage my friends tractor.

I am looking for any info on how to get the parts numbers. I can't find a schematic for any of the parts I need on the JD site. Any online sites that discount original deere parts? I would like to be able to order by part # if possible.

I need to replace the front grill (the nose piece) and one headlight. The plastic bezel that surrounds the headlights is cracked too. nothing looks too bad but it only has 140 hours. I want to fix it as new with deere parts.

I also bent the pto driveshaft connecting the tractor to the frontier 1072 cutter. In addition I damaged all the flat bar stock parts that connect the cutter deck to the top link connection. I need the kit like the dealer installs after they sell the cutter. some new ones I have seen at dealers did not have these flat bar stock parts installed until time of sale. I assume I crossed a ditch or lowered the fel and bent it. I honestly have no idea how it happened. I just know I did it.

I told him I would be glad to buy and replace the parts or take it to the selling dealer and just pay them to repair it. He was fine with me replacing the parts.

Thanks in advance. I would be grateful for any help. I would like to fix it quick.

DVR, Dude!! Sorry about the bad luck. My advise is to bite the bullet and take it to the dealer and let the dealer fix it. This way your friend will have confidence that the repairs were made by a reputable and competent service department with genuine factory parts!!

I have skills with a wrench. He does not want to be w/o the tractor. He needs the loader. The dealer is likely busy. Lots of farmers cutting corn around here.

I will just remove the cutter, bad parts (with exception of the grill/nose piece) and get new ones.
The nose piece looks fine. He will say don't worry about it when he looks at it. I will replace it anyway.
It is all bolt on easy to replace parts. They will be the same parts as if I take it to the dealer. That is where I will be getting them. They will be installed or ordered tomorrow. I will drive to any dealer that has them within 100 miles.

Thanks for the sympathy. It was one of those days.

I just go see the parts boys at the JD house and they pull up the schematic on the screen and we figure it out there. They deal with the JD parts system everyday and know what they are looking at.

Hi I think the part # you are looking for the RC1072 cutter support arms are ME300278 and you need two. So far replaced 2 sets this season , the PTO cover. Haven't bent the PTO yet. Talking to JD here it's a pretty common item to repair. I can go and get the exploded parts diagrapm and fax it to you. To stop this we have wielded steel to the sides of the arms.

thanks railtrac,

that was the correct part # as indicated by my invoice. It was listed as a top link mount. I paid $27.49 each. plus 2 hitch pivot links at $17.10 each.
Those were not so bad. they gave me "deal" on the grill and one headlight. the grill was $265.00 the headlight was $50.

Thanks for your help.

Railtrac,
the pto shaft slides apart and back together easily. my buddy grew up farming and says it is not bent if it does that. I think it may be. once we get it back together if it does not run true I will replace it. the dealer said the inner and outer shaft were available w/o replacing the clutch, u-joints and yokes.

in my case i think i am glad the arms bent. i suspect it would have broken something more expensive otherwise.

Good to hear it worked out. I paid $31.19 CDN each for the top link. I included a picture of the fix, we gave the buckled top links to the local welder and he added the extra steel piece to the side, have a new set and if this works we will get them done up. I also intend to paint them JD green so it looks like it belongs.
