First time removing backhoe and left the detent engaged. It immediately made a noise from the hydraulics when starting. I shut it off. Made sure the valve was turned off and restarted. Noise is still there. I'm assuming I got air in the system? How can I fix this?

First up, add your tractor make/model, loader and or backhoe models.
When you removed the backhoe the hydraulic circuit needs to continue, depending on your make model, you need to add a loop hose in place of the backhoe or ensure the backhoe selector valve is in the neutral or bypass position so fluid can flow freely back to tank, it sounds as if yours is not and pressure is building and flow is going into relief
