I have been looking at a ton of posts between this site and others concerning the topic of an x700 series mower and a SCUT (2305/2320) I am beginning to lean towards the x700 series as I really only need to mow currently, but would like to have the option of some minor implement useage (tiller, johnny bucket etc). I found a good deal on a x720SE with a 7-iron deck for $9900, but its gas and everything I've been reading from everyone is to go diesel. Well now the dealer has a 2006 x748 that they've had sitting around (only 25 hours) and they are willing to sell it as new for $9700. So now that I've decided to hold off on the SCUT/CUT until we arrive at our farm, I need some help on this one. Would it be better to have the x720SE with the 7-iron deck or the older x748 with 4x4 and diesel? Your suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I had a 445 (gas) with a 54" deck and then upgraded to a X595 (Diesel) with a 62" deck. I cut my fuel consumption by about 2/3 and only use about 1/3 of what I did with gas. If your mainly doing mowing, the X748 would be the way to go in my opinion. My X595 is a 2001 and I just turn over 1000 hrs with out a problem. Good luck.

Curt.

just a caution, since it sounds like your looking to resell this... there are few machines out there that depriciate as quickly as highend garden tractors do. Being that you can by a new diesel SubCut for $8500 its really hard to move used garden tractors for much over 5000.

Messicks is right. If it was mainly for mowing, invest in a good quality ZTR and get a tractor later to use as a tractor. You'll be way farther ahead and have good resale on both.

Why would you want to spend $9700 to $9900 on an older used less capable tractor when as Messicks stated you can upgrade to a brand new upper level tractor for $8500?:confused:

Its a shame you are not closer to Messicks...he could sell you one of those JD X700 Series lawn tractors he can't get rid of for 5K. :) I do agree however I would much rather have a small loader on any brand SCUT than a Johnny Bucket on a garden tractor..

The x700 can be fitted with a little better than a johnny bucket, if not 4WS. To the question posted, I'd go for the X748. Yeah, these are garden tractors, which aren't the same as SCUTs. But sometimes the GT is a better fit. The OP has to decide what best fits his needs.
