need to buy a tractor now. will be using for mowing, FEL work, general cleaning up, and light farm work (moving hay, light discing, baling, etc.). i have narrowed it down to the kubota 6040 and the case jx80 or farmall 80. i can get the kubota with FEL for $26k and the case for $29k. the case dealer said he would substitute a 2009 farmall for the 2008 jx if they were all sold. i know the kubota is 10hp less, but the engine is the same in the 7040 as well as the chassis. i assume the injector pump could be turned up to provide the 10hp difference if necessary. i really need to get the tractor bought now so any and all opinions are welcome. thanks.

forgot to ad that the kubota has the hydraulic shuttle.

Six months ago while shopping for a utility tractor I narrowed my choices down to Kubota and Case/Farmall and ended up buying a Kubota M40 with hydraulic shuttle.

I believe the difference between the M6040 and M7040 is a few more HP, limited slip front differential, tires and wheels. I like the M6040 a lot, I think it would work well for what you describe. What kind of baling are you talking about, square or round? If round what size?

square bales. i dont think it would have the physical weight or possibly hp to handle a round baler very well. what do you think? thanks too for the reply.

OK, square bales would be no problem at all for the M6040. Round bales might be pushing it though. As for weight, the 6040 is good. It's strong, not too heavy at the base weight. You can fill the rear tires and put on the front end loader and increase the weight a good amount.

I really wouldn't use this as my plan. If you need the 10 additional horsepower, buy a tractor that provides it. For work such as baling hay, 10 extra horses CAN make a difference.

I bought a CaseIH JX80(MFWD,FEL) with only 37 hours on it back in January. I couldn't be happier with my purchase. It has all the power I need and more. It gets used for a variety of chores and hasn't missed a beat yet. I am very impressed with this tractor.
