Tiller Need help w/ my tiller

Alright, so assuming I do need the tensioner arm replaced (it seems to be far too light-weight to be welded back together), does anyone have a place that I am likely to be able to get a replacement part?

You should visit you local ATV/motorcycle dealer, should be able to fix you up with a suitable bolt on part that will do the job.

I'm not familiar with all the different brands of tillers, however i'm somewhat experienced with chain drives on farm equipment.
It looks like a broken chain tensioner. The D portion fits in the slotted fitting, and the curved portion (It should be all one piece by the way) is adjusted to take most of the slop out of the chain. There should be a pin or perhaps a set screw to hold the D portion of the adjuster in the slot. It needs to be held in by some method at least.
I'd guess theres a nut on the back side of the slotted bolt that you can loosen and adjust the curved portion of the part to run against the chain to take up the slack.
Rather an unusual adjuster that i've never run across before, i've never seen a metal cam such as this for an adjuster. Usually they will be an idler gear or a wooden block to help prevent excessive wear.
It looks like, lacking a parts book, you'll have to have the two pieces welded back together and determine how its held in the slotted bolt to allow adjustment.

His type of adjuster has been common for quite a few years now. They did away with the wooden blocks, and switched to the tensioner in his pics, and started using a 'fiber block'. The fiber block lasts longer than the old wooden design .

EDIT: For the op............picture your curved piece, like a brake shoe on a car............that's what it originally looked like. Without it.....it will rip the teeth of the gears eventually, repair it as soon as possible.

I'd sure try and get the tensioner back on properly because whether it looks like it's needed or not, as the chain stretches with age and use, it will get slack sooner or later and the tensioner is needed to compensate for any slack it might get.
