My atv was fine one day and the next day when you pushed the start button all you heard was a single click each time you pushed the button. The battery is charged and good. The click was coming from the silinoid. I replaced it and it continues to click at the same spot. Any ideas before I have to break down and take it to the shop.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I'm sure I probably spelled silinoid wrong also.

Make sure your battery terminals are clean and tight as well as the rest of the pertinent connections. It sounds like the solenoid is pulling but it could be the starter motor itself which isn't running.

Yep. Check those connections. That is the classic symptoms of a bad connection. Even if they look good, use a wire brush or something abrasive to clean the battery posts and clamps good. And also check the other end of the battery cable where it connects to the engine or frame or where ever it connects.

Go to highlifter.com and ask the question. I don't recall the exact answer but it is a common problem with a wire that comes loose.

My wife used to have a Kawasaki 220. I went through this on that machine.
I tried a different battery and several other things. Ended up taking it to the dealer. They said it might be a week before they could get to it. Drove 30 minutes home and got a phone call. They found a loose wire and it was fixed.

It's the starter. I taped on it with a pair of pliers and it starts every time. Thanks for all your help on this.

Ahh, yes. The old rap it with the pliers trick (or hammer or whatever). Amazing how often that fixes something. If it has brushes, they probably were not seated properly and a little tap did the trick.

At the price of a starter, I think it's cheaper to just chain a hammer to hit and use it when needed.

Thanks for all the help!!

That works for a while until the brush holders get dirtier & you have to swing the hammer harder. Eventually something breaks & it's new started time. You may want to clean the brush holders.
