I'm in the market for a new tractor and have narrowed it down to the TC35 & TC40. I own a horse farm and I'll be using the tractor to mow about 3 acres and bush hog about 10 acres. I'll also be using it to move 1000# round hay bails occassionally. Is the TC 35 enough tractor to do the job? Based on what I've been quoted, there's about $2300 differece in the two. New TC35A with 16LA loader for $19,000.

The TC35A will do fine, but you'll probably find a 6' cutter is the maximum width. With the TC40A, you could go to 7'. Your 1000 lb round bales will be no challenge for either tractor with the proper ballast. Considering the price difference I think I'd go with the TC35DA. Be sure and get the rear tires filled if you plan to move round bales much. Also, I'd go with a 60" bucket on the 16LA instead of the 72" bucket. Just make sure either bucket is quick-attach. That option is worth every penny you'll pay for it.

msbraves, I have a TC40D with the 16LA loader and 72" HD bucket. I have no problem moving 1000# 3'x3'x8' bales using pallet forks attached to the bucket. I prefer to use the type of pallet forks that are attached with chain binders as this distributes the weight around the bucket instead of just on the edge. Like Jim said, be sure to have the rear tires filled for ballast. Just be careful .
