I'm shopping the 2210/2305/1026 with loader. What has the wisdom been in regards to the 49" vs. 53" bucket width?

Those tractors are roughly 47" wide. I would like to be able to rip-up topsoil at least. The tractors vary between 22-25 hp.

Wider buckets are easier to get close to things on the side and not worry about the tractor tires hitting the side of what you are digging. Wider buckets are definitely better in the snow. Wider buckets take more HP for dirt work and are a bit more wear and tear on the tractor.

If I remember correctly the 49 inch bucket is a pin on design, but when you upsize the bucket you get a JDQA quick attach which allows you swap the bucket for forks in about 1 minute. What every you do get the JDQA, one day you will get forks and then you will wonder why you didn't get them sooner.

For dirt work, keep you bucket width as narrow as possilbe but still as wide or wider thant tire width. If digging undistrubed ground, it works bette to add a tooth bar or teeth on the bucket. My personal preference is to use my 60" tiller to work the ground loose 8" deep, then use the 60" dirt bucket with teeth to move the soil. Go back with the tiller again to go deeper if needed.

When I bought my Kubota loader it came standard with a 50" bucket. The dealer was out of 50" buckets so he gave me a 54" bucket for the same price. I like the 54' bucket because it allows me to dig closer to buildings with the sides of the bucket and it will move more snow. I do a little dirt work with the loader and I am sure the 50" bucket would be better for this. If I had it to do over again I would get the 54" bucket. If I had a lot of dirt work to do with the loader I would keep the 54" bucket and buy a tooth bar for it.

I agree, however I do prefer as narrow a bucket as possible for dirt work.

I selected the 53" bucket instead of the 61" for that very reason. The 2520 is 51" wide with tires in the wide position so the bucket is just wider than the tractor.

Why not a narrow bucket for dirt AND a wider 60" one for snow? I wish I had done this as after 7 winters of clearing snow with my 53" bucket the edge is now worn out and will no longer dig unbroken ground.
