Need help with FX42d clutch replacement

Clutch has been getting weak over the last two years. Has anyone replaced one on this tractor series?

Hydraulic pump is weak too, but I can't imagine it has anything to do with this.

Where do I start? Last clutch I did was on a Datsun B-210.

Can you define "getting weak"? Is the clutch slipping, or gears grinding, does it need to be adjusted to 3/4" free lay in the pedal? Does the hydrualic pickup screen need to be cleaned? If it really needs replacement, they are all pretty much the same. Block up the frontend, put a floorjack or suitable, moveable lift on the rear and keep taking stuff loose until it splits apart at the bellhousing and roll the rear half back.

Weak means that the clutch slips. All 3 ranges, all 4 forward and 2 reverse speeds. Is there one set of clutches that control all of this??

BTW, new fluids and clean screen.

What type of spin on filter are you using? Some fit but do not allow the hydraulics/transmission to work properly.

Tried NAPA and Fram. Both are too restrictive and the pump told me so. The recent filter change must have did me in. Pump crackled like crazy. I was hard-up enough to use the tractor while it limped. I'm guessing I did in the hydraulic pump too.

Can the hydraulic pump affect the transmission or clutch operation?

On a tractor that size, having the proper cribbing to hold up the halves of the tractor and yet let them slide is the most important thing I can think of. You could really damage the machine and yourself if it would slip. I use my trackhoe to hold up one end and crib up the other solid.

I highly recommend getting a parts manual for your tractor so you can see what's in there and what your options are. I understand the powershift models have a set of springs that can break and cause slippage.
