Hey guys I know most of you will grumble about chiniesium tractors but that's what I got.
I just purchased a little farm pro 2420. It had a knock in the rear cylinder. There was some white smoke and more if I throttle up. sooo off to the races to figure it out. I noticed that one of the studs holding the injector in was missing. This told me someone suspected issues back there before.
I knew it could be a leaking injector causing fuel knock. So maybe not a rod or at least I hope not. So I took the injector out, took it apart and cleaned it. I reinstalled with a new stud that was missing. Immediately it fixed 80% of the knock. I can still hear a faint resemblance of a knock but I really REALLY have to try hard to find it.
There is still a slight amount of white smoke and if I ramp the throttle a goood bit more. I believe it's unburnt fuel.
The guy I bought it from said the injector pump was replace recently so I figured I have some timing issues. This would explain the smoke and likely the detection of a faint knock.
The problem is I'm not so sure how to go about fine tuning this pump?? I see what appears to be two bolts. One on top and the other on the bottom. One on top is a pivot and the one on bottom is ovaled or slotted for lateral adjustment. There are no manuals and little usable info out there on these tractors. Without years of squired knowledge on diesel mechanics, it leaves me holding my hat.
What's the best approach to attempting to fine tune the pump? How would you guys go about it??
