Ok.. setting here at work and my manager just come over for help.

She uses limewire ( I don't use limewire! ). she has aparently gotten some songs ( mp3 format I think ), in her ' limewire library ' and want to know how to get them to her computer so she can do things like burn them to a cd or xfer to an mp3 player.

I'm not familiar with limewire so don't know if this limewire library is already a folder on her local computer, or if it is a library on a server.

If it's on her local pc, she should just be able to search for the file by name, find it, then drag it to wherever she wants.. like desktop.. or whatever I assume.

If it's on a server, then what are the steps needed to get it to the local pc? will RIGHT CLICK and 'save target as' work? or can she drag/drop? or is there a download control?

if anyone uses limewire and has got music files from them, tell me the procedure how to do it. keep in mind I know nothing about limewire.. so give me step by step instructions because I'll likely be stuck doing 'tech supt' for my manager when she gets home tonight.

thanks

I'll tell you what...
Limewire is a peer-to-peer file sharing utility.
If your employer knows it is on their computer and the R.I.A.A. finds that the Limewire user has downloaded or shared copyrighted materials the employer will be liable for HUGE fines for EACH file.

Get it off your company systems ASAP.

Here's some good reading.

No where in my message did I indicate that the limewire client is on a work pc. I did however specifically state that she would be needing the tech supt when she got home.. IE.. meaning the limewire client is on her home pc.

besides.. here at work everything is firewalled and instal-crippled. wouldn't even be able to download the client to a work system. Heck.. only reason I can get outside tot he real world is because I'm not on the work based internet, but rather using my broadband card right now :)

for clarity:

I don't use limewire. don't have the client. thus I'm not familiar with lime wire .

someone else does on their home pc.

to be honest, when my manager mentioned that, I told her she needed to watch out what she downlaods as I have heard you can get viri and other pc infections that way... so she's been warned...

There is a Limewire folder that is generated when you install Limewire. Look in that file folder and look for a folder called "shared files" and all the songs she downloaded will be there and she can burn a CD by transfering the ones she wants to he CD burner software

My son is heavy into this Limewire music downloads, He told me about it a few years ago if I wanted to find some of the older tunes I liked and use to listen to I could likely find it there, so I went and download the program and didn't realize I had agree to share files, and after putting up some search for the music I was looking for,,,, Boy did the results come back with some pretty bad things:eek:
I realized then I wanted no part of that site and closed my account,
if one can look over all the bad results and pick through the good ones and only use them to listen to from your music library I think its perfectly OK,
but it gets to be a different thing when comes to copy/burning music to disc,
and even doing this might be somewhat be overlooked providing you are not mass producing them for re-sale....... the Bootleg Industry are the real ones the music industries of copyrights are going after,

I don't have specific knowledge of what the music is being used for.. but if I had to guess.. it's probably personal use on a mp3 player, as she just had me show her how to use the new one on she just got.

( not that this matters in any way.. but the co I work for has a blanket ASCAP/BMI license.. )

Sorry, I read it to think it was on company equipment.

Even on a private home system however, I would not want to get my hands dirty with it. Its main use is to get multi-media and software without paying for it.

With that said, I bow out.

I don't know a thing about limewire (never heard of it), but it has been reported that some plain ole folks got hit with hefty damages for copyright infringement for downloading music off the internet from other places for personal use with no resales to others.

When in doubt, don't.

I agree.. you won't find it on my computers. I have heard too many negative things about it...
