I had the dealer install 2 stackable rear remotes on my L3400 this summer and finally got around to using them. I purchased a log splitter yesterday, and hooked it up. When I try to use it, nothing happens. I think the dealer hooked up the rear remotes incorrectly. I traced the hydraulic lines and drew the attached diagram. The Rear Remotes are on the left, the pump attachment is in the middle and the FEL is on the right. Shouldn't the Power beyond connection from the FEL go to the input of the remotes, the out from the remotes go to the power beyond port, and the last connection on the remotes go to the tank? Also, now that the dealer put a hydraulic line to the place where I thought I add hydraulic fluid, where do I add it now?

HELP! Thanks,
Rick

The return line on my BX went back to the side of the Hydro case. I removed a plug and put in a hydraulic fitting. Sorry, can't help you on the rest of the system. Call your dealer on Monday and see what they say. They might not even have tried the set up after they installed it. You can also contact Kubota engineering and ask them to fax you a diagram of the factory suggest line placement.

Your drawing doesn't come out looking too good so I will describe how the system should be setup. The circuit should be pump to FEL valve to rear remote valve to 3pt to tank.
  • The power beyond line from the FEL should be connected to the rear remote valve's inlet.
  • The power beyond from the rear remote valve should connect to the tractor's hydraulic block where the loader valve's power beyond was disconnected.
  • The rear remote valve's return to tank line should be teed into where ever the loader valve's return to tank line enters the transmission, or in this case the hydraulic block. This is the only line that can be teed.
  • The rear remote valve's work ports should be run to the rear of the tractor for use.
There is no other way to connect this and have everything work.

OK, I had to use the zoom on your picture to see how it was connected. What you call Pump is the tractor's hydraulic block.

If your drawing is correct then the rear remote valve is plumbed incorrectly. The rear remote valve's inlet and power beyond connections are reversed.

As I described in the previous post, the power beyond from the loader valve goes to the inlet of the rear remote valve. The power beyond from the rear remote valve goes back to the tractor hydraulic block where the loader power beyond hose went.

"Out" on a power beyond valve usually refers to the tank port but you must make sure of that. It is important that this be plumbed correctly. Who manufactured your rear remote valve and what is it's model number?

Since your pump and 3pt are still operational the only other explanation why it's not working is that the rear remote valve's inlet and PB are reversed.

I was just reading your post and want to make sure we aren't missing the obvious. I have to move the lever for the rear remote and place it under a catch which is built into the frame and holds the valve open in order to get open center flow through the valve. Have you moved the lever with the LS attached?

I was assuming that rickmacheske knew that the remote lever had to be bungie corded open in order to operate the log splitter. In any event, the circuit is still plumbed wrong. Given that the dealer wasn't even smart enough to tee the remote valve's tank port back into the tractor's own tank return on the hydraulic block, he is lucky that the dealer didn't kill the pump in the process of installation. Based on what is known at this time, the dealer is somewhat hydraulically challenged and I would think twice about having him do any work on my tractor.:(

I knew you knew. Just wanted to make sure Rick wasn't missing something. I hope the dealer didn't have the pump running against the spring relief all this time.

Thanks for all the help. I did know enough to open the valve on the remote. I think Mad is correct in his assumption that the dealer plumbed the inlet and the power beyond ports reversed. I'm going to take it back to him and have him redo it, including teeing the tank port instead of how he did it. I'm also going to have him get me a schematic for the rear remote valves. What bothers me the most is that I had him do it so that I couldn't cause any damage to the hydraulics because of wrong plumbing. Sometimes doing it yourself is the only way to go....
