$1500 isn't a rip off price...
Stainless isn't cheap, isn't easy to work, requires experience to prevent burning the nickle out of the metal, then allowing it to rust.
Since some s/s is acid resistant, and the lead isn't, I would look at hydracloric acid is eat out the lead, but beware the fumes are going to be extremely harmful. Extreme amounts of ventilation and skin/eye protection. (guess that scared you off!!). If you have a business nearby that does galvanizing or uses acid tanks, you might get the tank dumped for a six pack or small bribe.

Hey people..I bought a used maple syrup evaporator...Problem is i only noticed when I got it home its soldered together with 50/50 lead solder...What can I do to get this solder out and either resolder with lead free solder or tig weld it...Cant make or sell maple syrup with lead in pans and 1000.00 to 1500.00 for new ones

Got the figure from this post...and I used the higher one, lol

He even said it twice....post #1 and post #6. 1000-1500 + shipping for a new one is what I read.

He did say that a shop wanted 5500 to make one. But why go that route when a new one is 4x's less money.

Not sure what this "maple syrup" venture is about.....but if you are just making for yourself, fine. But if you are wanting to go into business and plan on selling the product......I wouldn't half @$$ it. Spend the money to make sure it is right. One lawsuit for lead poisoning and you can tack another 3 zeros to the cost of that new pan.

sorry I was talking about the welding shop that wanted to charge me 5500.00 to build me pans..The pans I have are at a good friends fab shop that builds ss range hoods as we speak for 100.00..good deal

What grade stainless are they making it for 100 dollars? Nothing that is rustproof, or non-magnetic,unless that really is a box friend who is absorbing material costs.

Or unless his friend is just burning out the solder and and re-welding. But still, for $100 and the size of that pan....

Theres a good 4 hours of TIG-ing just re-welding all the seams. Nevermind burning out the solder:confused2:
