I have a number of questions concerning the hydraulics on my Shibaura SD1803. I'd certainly appreciate any help anybody can offer. I have been searching online for awhile without much success.
I'm no mechanic, and I only get to use my tractor occasionally, so I'm not very savvy about hydraulics. The immediate problem is that the lift won't rise anymore. I have identified the pump and low and high pressure lines. Here are my questions:
1. I can only find 1 filler hole and 1 drain, and it seems to be used by both the transmission and hydraulics. If this is the case, what is the proper fluid to use, hydraulic fluid or transmission oil?
2. Can somebody point me to a good troubleshooting procedure that is applicable to the Shibaura? I have found indications that my tractor may be similar to a Ford/New Holland model, but I'm not sure which.
3. The controls are 'way different from my old Ferguson. There is a 3 position toggle lever, a rheostat-type knob, a 3 position switch, and a knob that just turns endlessly. When the hydraulics were working, I was able to make the lift work, but I was never sure exactly what I was doing, and it was a bit hit-and-miss. Does anyone have info on this electric type of lift control?
I have pretty good pictures I can attach of the pump, filler hole, drain plug, some of the Japanese writing, and the lift controls.
Thanks,
Ben
