Our swallows and our chickens all seem to ***** while sitting down and the only way is to give them a seat where the shat won't matter. My quanset hut was lit by roamex with rubber lamp sockets, finally had to re-route the wire so it didnt pass over any stored boats, cars etc. Crap on the dirt floor didnt matter. Permanent perches got bird guards , looked like broom bristles.

Here's something that you may find interesting (or not). It's purely anecdotal, but for some reason - well - anyway...
I had a problem when I first built my barn. Same as you guys - birds made themselves at home. I tried to chase them out with noise and throwing rocks, etc. The one thing that made them leave immediately was... music. For some reason, turn on the shop stereo and they were out of there. For several months it took a good blast every time I was there and one found his way in. Now, it seems like they avoid the barn, whether the music is on or not.
For the record, it was classic rock .
