I guess I am doing something wrong. I try to do searches for something specific and get everything except what I search for. I am trying to find posts concerning getting rid of "Grass burs or sand burs" and can't find information I need.
Can someone let me know how to do a proper search> I love the forum and when time allows I look at almost all information on "Build It Yourself" and Projects". I find great help and information but would like to know how to perform a specific search.

Thanks in advance,
Red Cox

You're better off going to google and typing in what you are looking for, then add tractorbynet to the end of it

Are you using the "Google Custom Search" box in the upper right hand corner? Are you running NoScript?

I got 70 hits when I searched for grass burrs OR sand burrs.

I used Eddie's method before TBN added the Google Custom search feature, as the TBN Search function leaves a lot to be desired. I had thought the Google Custom Search would return the same results as a direct search, but I got only 64 hits when I Googled grass burrs OR sand burrs site:tractorbynet.com :confused3:

Thanks Eddie. By the way, I see lots of information which you offer on the forums and I appreciate reading all I find. I will give Google a try as you suggest. Have a great day in the Tyler area. I use to work Tyler, Longview and Lindale in Insurance sales before I retired. Great area.

Thanks Steve. I had never noticed the Google search box in the upper right hand corner. I just tried it and got lots of hits. Now, what is "No Script??

Here is a note from another forum guru, I have pasted here as he wrote it: good luck.

If you aren't aware of how to search specific websites using google, it is by far the best way to search, and here is how you do it:

Go to Google and type in whatever you want to search, in the search bar, then, after what you just typed, type this exact phrase, but without the quotation marks- "site:www.tractorbynet.com"

Therefor, if your looking for "how big of a tractor do I need" - You would type into the google search engine:

"How big of a tractor do I need site:w"ww.tractorbynet.com" (Note: take out the quote marks)

You will get ONLY results from TBN, and it works excellent.

Red,

NoScript is a free security extension for Firefox that blocks JavaScript, Java, etc. See https://noscript.net/.

I was thinking that NoScript may have been blocking your access to the Custom Google Search application.

it tend to goto..
Google
search for something
disc harrow
and if i want site specific type in...
disc harrow site:tractorbynet.com

most DIY projects normally have pictures / images. so i end up clicking up on the "IMAGE" option on google. and i also tend to use "VIDEO" option on google. to see a list of youtube videos.

============
extra blah...
small size forums the built in search function of the software works. but a site like tractorbynet there are so many posts from folks. that the search gets overwhelmed and bad results start coming back. end result normally using some other 3rd party website such as google tends to bring back better information.

============
long term searching....
i tend to use google and stay signed in with it. so it saves my searches. i will search for a little bit see if something comes up right away many times it does. but some times, i wait half a day to a day and try again, and begin getting different search results. i am assuming the half day / day i wait from initial searchs to next time i search google is searching for stuff that might better suit me.

normally i will go 2 pages deep or roughly 80 results back from a google search if i am not finding something, it normally means wrong "key word / terms" being used, or i wait 12 hours to 24 hours and try again. and tend to start to get stuff coming back.

=============
and when i am just stumped / wanting extra feed back "a thread is created here on TBN :)"
