OK, I have a 28'x56'x 12' wall tractor shed, it is 2x4 studs on 16" center and 2x4 truss rafters 32" on center, 6/12 pitch. The rafters has 2x4 pulins on it at 2' centers. The building has channel drain tin on the outside. I plan on putting a ceiling in it to keep the heat/AC cost down (less sq ft to heat). I want to cover the inside with 7/16" blandix/chip board and paint white, this will be a lot cheaper than tin, and it will hold screws for shelves. I would like to use foam but I can not aford it. What can I use that is cheap agaist the tin on the wall and later when the timeing is better I can blow the walls and ceiling. I would like to wrap the inside with visqueen for a vapor barrior under the blandix. I have priced bubble insulation from insulationforless via internet, but that is still $1200. The best price on foam was 1.30 sq ft at 2" closed cell almost 3K.
Thank for any input

first - make sure your ceiling trusses are "bottom load rated" for putting in that ceiling.
second - what kind of price can you get for 4x8 sheets of rigid foil lined foam board? the foil makes a radiant barrier, which increases it's effectiveness and you can tack it up to the studs then install your OSB right over the top of it.
another option would be to put up some visqueen then blow in fiberglass batting. (there's one on the market now with some "tack" to it that sets up in a day or so which limits future settling)

either way, you're going to be spending some $$ - and $1200 doesn't sound too far off considering the size of the building no matter what insulation you go with.

Good thread.
I also have to insulate a pole building and am not sure what to do about the ridge vent and the eaves.Do I cover them with insulation and lose venting?.That doesn't sound right to me.

Take a look at having foam insulation sprayed on. If you are going to line the inside, you can use the 1/2 pound density, or if you are going to leave it exposed (as I did), then the 1 pound density has a tough, durable skin.

It isn't a lot more than other options, but eliminates the need for a vapor barrier and completely seals every air (and water) leak.

You can mask off vents if desired.

If you are going to install a ceiling do not close off the vents. Venting the attic space is critical. My pole barn is 30x40x 10', I have an OSB ceiling over 6 mil plastic sheeting with 14 inches of blown in insulation. I have a composition roof over OSB. The walls are painted sheet tin over 1 inch double foil covered foam. I heat the building in the cold months to 55 degrees at an expense of around $35 a month with a Hot Dawg natural gas fired furnace.
You can probably get by for a while with just the 6 mil plastic sealing everything up so any existing heat won't leave by exhausting and leave only by moving through the material. Not the best case scenario but if you don't have a choice it is better than nothing.
