I have a walkway that needs to be replaced and I need instruction. The walkway is serpentine and will require about twenty steps. I Googled a number of times but am not finding any good tutorials. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Hi
Steps can be tricky, Think water run off first, if the water has to go over, wet steps or undermine them is not good.
A step should be about 7" tall larger or smaller but keep the all the same, or you wil have a trip haz. 9" wide thread is good all the same is the key
The kermilin in Russia, steps at the top do not match.
In sandy soil, every four step should have a post or foundation into the ground, depending on slope.
I think there is a building code somewhere that states, evey 13 steps ther is supose to be a landing.
RR ties are the cheapest, cement most popular,
frame them with 2X8's keep in mind a 16 penny nail is nothin when trying to hold back cement, I used 20 penny ring shank and had good luck, had to cut form nails with sawzall to get form off.

How to build them is going to depend on region, building materials, and soil. The general rule of thumb for steps is "the rule of 21" which is rise + run = 21". This is approximate, but works out pretty well. Also, your rise should be around 7" for the most comfortable step. Obviously, a serpentine walk is going to have steps that twist so fudging on the rise/run ration is going to happen. Let us know what materials you are building out of and there may be some more specific info.
