My first post....not a frequent forum user so bear with me ;) Does anyone know of any problems/drawbacks with the New Holland TC26DA tractor. I'm going to look at a 2006 4x4 3cyl, 26HP Diesel. Full PTO. Has 101 hours. Comes with a 6 foot finish mower that hooks up to rear pto. They are asking $7600. Thoughts?

Head over to the New Holland sub forum here on TBN. do a search on that model and see what you find.

I don't know anything about them but that was probably a Shibaura built tractor which are supposed to be bulletproof. And the price sounds fine - without knowing much about them. I've got a friend who has one similar to that and he loves it and has had no problems with it.

great tractor, much heavier than most things its size. Only draw back would be no loader, adding one will be costly.

if it has a loader, then you are having a great deal. Since it is almost ten years old, the warranty must be gone. The hours on it do not sound normal... Try to look for wear where they will normally appear if used enough, like the rubber covering the control pedals, the steering wheel, the tires, even the condition of the mower if it has been attached to the said tractor since its birth. So no loader gives you some leverage for price bargaining. Find out the cost for a loader with bucket first, then go from there.
Good luck on your quest, and Welcome aboard!:welcome:

Just curious a year later...VTS did you get the TC26? If so, I hope you are enjoying it. I just wanted to pass along a warning which you may be aware of, but in 2006 NH did not put out the warning. The warning is that during oil changes, be absolutely sure to pull out the dip stick and pour the oil in very slowly. Periodically check with the dip stick, while refilling, to be sure you are getting oil in the crankcase. Engine damage can occur if oil builds up in the valve cover and does not drain into the crankcase before you start it. The problem that can occur is that excess oil in the valve cover can be sucked into the intake manifold and then into a cylinder. If enough gets in the cylinder it can cause a hydro-lock condition which will likely bend a connecting rod. The indication that this has happened is that during starting a lot of white smoke will come out of the exhaust until the cylinder warms enough to burn the fuel. I had this happen on my TC26. While it is not the end, it does cause a great deal of work to correct. Mine happened around 2010, but I kept using it until recently and finally decided I better fix it. I still love the tractor for its power, size and durability. Mine has close to 500 hrs on it. I recently talked to a dealer salesman that has a client that has over 6000 hrs on his and it still going well.
