Hi gang, I am the proud owner for almost 2 years of a 2210DB. That said, my wife is visiting her sister whos husband recently died. Shes there helping her set up a sale of sorts which will start today, of two warehouses of tools ect.

When my wife got there she saw a little tractor like mine but its a 1700. She sent me these pics. It has what looks like an older tiller on it. My sister is law is selling it for $3500 with the tiller.

I want a tiller but have been looking at new ones for $1500 or so but they look ewer. I dont know tillers, especially older tillers.

This is a 1700, so by the number its roughly 18 HP, CORRECT AND SINCE NO D OR DB its just a 2x4 correct? My wifes phone died but I have asked for more pics. The controls are different than mine and Im waiting for the hours on the meter. According to my sister in law it was never used by her husband and started once a year, so that in its self can cause some dried out gaskets ect I am guessing. It runs but my wife will check it out later today.

Here are some pics. Can anyone tell me more about it or the differences between my 2201DB and this 1700? Are they similar in size?

ARE THERE ANY SPECIFIC PICS MY WIFE CAN RELAY TO ME THAT WOULD HELP? I need some info kinda quick as they live on a busy road and are listing it today for sale along with a ton of stuff.

Those tillers are like $900 or so at Frederics in better shape than that. I would think the tiller would bring $500 easy on a sale and possibly closer to the $650 mark alone. The tractor and tiller at $3500 is a fair price I think...maybe a a bit high but has the tiller so its in the realm. This is no super steal though. The tractor would have 17HP at the pto and proably closer to 20hp on the engine .

I mean I don't know if id pay more than a few hundred unless she can say for sure it works and is not locked up or needs a whole set of tines or something..those alone will be a lot of money.

There is a thread here somewhere I forget what its titled but we were talking about these tillers and the worth of them...its probably still active and in the top 15 or so posts on the board.

Definitely top $ unless possibly in Cal. by about $500 IMHO.

I would not buy this for $3,500. The YM1700 has no ROPS, not refurbished anything, and the fender lights look very original. Thus, it could have been a Japan > Vietnam > USA gray market tractor. At best $2,000 would be a safer price to pay. The tiller from the photos is missing the two rear inward facing discs. Not sure what else to say since it's not running in a video.

The YM1700 is a 2-cly diesel. It's engine type is similar to the John Deere 650. The YM1700 is greatly supported with plenty of part suppliers here in the US too.

If I had a teenage son who was into tractors, this would make a great starter machine.

The tractor is little brother to what you have, 10% less hp, 10% less weight, manual transmission, 2wd. Same years. Nearly identical design aside from yours is Powershift.

Assuming that's a RS1400 tiller it originally came with YM2000, the tractor in between that 1700 and your 2210, so the tiller would work well with either.

Ask her to verify the label on the back-right upper deck of the tiller says RS1400. Also look at the tines. If they are worn to where the tips have no curl then they're shot.

Those tillers are indestructible, mine looked about like that when I bought it and it still works like it did new. Value? $500 range and would sell quickly. Don't let her sell it separate from the tractor, it makes the tractor more salable.

YM1700? 2wd's aren't very popular and will take a while to sell. I think it would have to be $2,000 to sell alone in a reasonable time. The good news is they are so simple that they are near indestructible and easy to maintain when they eventually need some minor thing.

The tiller from the photos is missing the two rear inward facing discs.
The rear 'discs' you see on some of these are actually optional trailing 'trainer wheels', that are taken off most of these tillers because they limit sharp turns or especially backing up. I use them to limit tilling depth with the YM186D because the RS1400 loads that tractor to the point of stalling when I till across disced ground then have to climb the front wheels up a 6" step to get up on to undisturbed turf. Using the tiller as intended on the YM240 (YM2000) the rear wheels are unneeded. With them off, the tiller is configured like every modern tiller, no rear wheels.

Even with the wheels removed, their structure is needed to ballast the back of the tiller properly. That's what we see in the photo.

Summary: RS1400 rear wheels are an option, generally not needed.
