Twenty years ago I could count the hairs on a gnat's posterior. A couple of months ago I was driving at night on a long, long trip and couldn't tell if I was still in New Jersey or Maryland. And you think wearing 1.25's is bad.

Seriously, the best thing I've found to replace youthful eyes is a pair of graduent trifocals. It still sucks to wear glasses but it beats not being able to see. I've tried contacts and they just annoy the heck out of me. Partly because it feels like I have something in my eyes all day, but mostly because they don't fix the problem.

LOL at this post! Modern medicine aside, it's all part of life! Gives credence to that old saying about "feeling your way around", LOL!

Hint: Do your homework now boys, LOL!

My BIL is an eye doctor. He says everybody needs glasses after 40. The reason is the eye lenses are just not flexible enough anymore to focus to certain distances. I can feel it myself, things I used to do without thinking are problem now, just because I can't see the darn thing:mad:

I first got glasses in 71 (grade six, couldn't see then blackboard), then contacts in 84 (easier to play hockey without glasses), Lasik in 94 (finally completely free of glasses) and then last year (had to give in to the cheaters) now the glasses cycle is starting over and will never end, oh well its not the end of the world but its getting closer everyday.

The way things are going in the economy and world unrest, who want's to look around anyway?

So long as I can see my front sight is all that matters. :D

My boss said my cheaters from Wally world added 10 points to my perceived intelligence quotient.

...But when you get those extra 10 points it puts you over the top and you fall into that "other" well known group. You may not want to go there unless you have a funny laugh and can fix computers.:D

While you're taping the bridge of your glasses, Kyle, dig out the pocket protector as well!:D:D They say my reading glasses goes along with my graying head and chin!!:D

And 10 more bonus points if you have a slide rule and know how to use it.

with the slide rule I got me to 30 points so 30 added to my -100 leaves me -70 IQ.

Negative 100 plus 30 leaves me with negative 70 IO

I did it on circular slide rule the only ones that can add.

for books, newspapers etc...you only have a couple of options

for reading on a computer you can increase the size and font style to make it easier to read...

changing the display resolution is one option...

on some pages and applications try holding the "Ctrl * " down and rolling the mouse wheel...other pages may require changing the settings through the "view" menu.

on some forum (member) sites you can change the CSS (cascading style sheet) to increase the font size...

I started at 1.25 and have progressed to 2.75 over the years.

From about 1.5 to 2.25 I hung them around my neck, now I just keep them in a case in my pocket.

For some reason bifocals give me a headache, so I just wear my distance glasses and when I need to read something put the readers on also -- that's right two pairs at the same time. Works great.
Costco is the best place to get them for me. 3 pairs for ~$20. You have to sort through them to find the least ugly ones, but I get three pairs I can use.

Another one that went the 2 pairs for reading route. I don't wear 2 pairs anymore, I finally got use to the bi-focals, but here's a picture of me three years ago in "the command center" (as the wife call's my recliner and surrounding tables, etc.)

I had retinal detachment a few months ago. I had to have the eye drained and repaired with gas and a buckle. During that time, I was completely blind. It took over two months for my vision, some of it to return.

All I can say, is don't take sight for granted. If your seeing anything, cherish it. Marvel at sight, it is truely a special gift. Take the time to really look at things.
