Need recommendation for fire extinguisher for PT-425

Folks,
Need a recommendation for a fire extinguisher for my PT-425. Would also like suggestions as to where to attach to the tractor. While we are on the subject I will probably need one for the shop and the kitchen (currently have a small old one kept in the sink cabinet).

Mine is attached to the hood of the Engine Cover. The upside is that if the engine catches on fire the extinguisher will explode and put it out ;-)

I have never liked the position due to the fire chances being so high in the engine compartment (not going to reach over a burning gas tank to get my extinguisher) but I really don't know where you wold but it. ROPS, down by your feet, under the seat...

Mine is the normal home level fire extinguisher.

Hi, fire extinguisher, co2 dry gas, good for all types of fires & no mess,
Dry powder, as above but leaves a mess,must be recharged after partial use,
Foam, oil fires mainly, not electrical, good cooling effect, major messy,again refill after partial use, Water, good cooling, not for electrical, can be recharged easily,
Halon, the best fire fighter ever made,size for size 4 x more efficient than all the above, sadly now banned in the UK, only now used in large computer builds with automatic fire sensors. If you can find even a small halon ext grab it, halon remains stable for years unlike the others, it was banned because it harmed the ozone layer, but there again so does a fire!!

Any size of extinguisher is better than no extinguisher. I would recommend a 2A dry chemical extinguisher for the tractor and house. I would put a bit bigger 4A for the shop. That covers must of the hazards. If you can find one of the older water extinguishers those are great around the barn. Just don't forget to empty them in the winter or keep them in a warm place.

The name-brand extinguishers with the "metal" neck and head are rechargable and higher quality to work when you need it! Also the dry chemical ones should be shaken periodically to keep it from clumping and clogging. I got this info/advise a few years ago from a fire-fighter that inspects our building at work.

The plastic strap on the holder for mine broke and the extinguisher fell off. It was on there for about 8 years, I believe.

So look for one with a good holder.

I put a tyewrap on to make it a little stronger. Not too big a tyewrap because you want to be able to break it.

You could mount two small fire extinguishers in the ROPS ceiling, one in each corner.

Or, and I hate to say this, you could let it burn. More than likely it is covered under your insurance. I say this because I had a friend with a burned up tractor. Put the fire out, rebuilt it, but it was never right again. Leaks from the heat, hoses failing, metal a bit fatigued.

Let it burn.
