My neighbor is looking to purchase a used trailer for moving his Ford NH 1920 between two properties apprx 25 miles apart. The 1920 is 4x4 with a loader. The gross weight without loader is around 3000 - 3300 lbs. Also need to include a bushhog or 16 disc Lienbach harrow. I have never towed a tractor so I have been researching the proper method for securing the load. I am looking for recommendations on trailer design (tandem axle, brakes, etc). Thanks in advance for your help!

The weight of the tractor with the loader is going to put him within the rating of a 16-18' 7K trailer, but with a cutter would require a 22-24' trailer in the 10K rating. And because of the weight rating would need brakes on both axles for either trailer.

I have a 7000# steel deck car hauler with dual axles and dual brakes. It weighs 1500#, so it has a useful load of 5500#. That would be plenty of trailer for a 3300# tractor plus brushhog or harrow. The trailer is 18' long with self contained ramps, has good tie-down points at the front and 3 on each side. So chains front and rear plus the implement.

Another nice point of a solid surface deck is that you can haul sand, dirt, rocks, etc... without it falling through the spaces between wood decking. Short side-boards can be added in the stake pockets, and that makes it easy to haul a couple yards of material on the trailer without worrying about it falling off the sides.

I found that with my Kubota L3400 with loader and brush hog a 20' was what was really needed. The Ford 1920 w/loader and brush hog will be very close to that size and weight.

I first picked up a used 16'er. Brush hog had to hang off the back some, and there was no room to adjust the weight balance of the tractor on the trailer. I then sold that trailer (for more than I paid for it) and bought the 20'er at the suggestion of the PJ Trailer supplier. Perfect fit for my use. Although the above suggestions are very good they put the price range above what I felt I could afford.

Buying used, your neighbor will probably not have too many choices regarding hitch type, lights, etc., but I suggest a Bulldog hitch and LED lights if possible. Tandem trailer with working brakes are a minimum, preferably on both axles but I think that'll be rare. A 7,000 gross weight trailer will be adequate. Good flooring and good tires would also be on top of my list. He'll be lucky to find a used trailer meeting those specs, and if he does, it'll probably be close in price to a new trailer.
Given that situation, the choice for me would be simple - buy new. If budget doesn't allow that, I hope he has good luck on finding just the right trailer for his needs.

I totally agree with buying new!
A new trailer will have new tires/wheels/brakes/decking/wiring, etc. and can be ordered in the desired size.
I too have a Ford 1920 FEL with brush mower/tiller/box blade/scrape blade.
I have a 20' trailer (bought new), and it is just right for my needs.
I would recommend a 10,000 lb. trailer, as it will likely be all the trailer ever needed for anything else that might come up, and the initial cost difference is minimal.

I haul my 1920 4x4 with loader and a 6' brush hog on a 20' trailer daily. My trailer is actually a 18' with a 2' dovetail and 2 3500# brake axles. Hauls and pulls fine.
