I am totally new to heavy machinery. I am considering buying a Case 860 Turbo trencher. The one I am looking at has a leak at the joints in couple of the hoses for the backhoe, and one of the hydraulic cylinders that operates the plow has a leak.
It has about 2700 hours on it and thing I should look for?
It seems to start easy enough and the backhoe works. Is there anything that commonly goes bad on these that is not obvious for a novice to spot?
How would I spot issues with the Turbo? If there is a problem with the turbo part, would it run regardless? what would be the effects just less power or could damage be inflicted?
What should I ask to be demonstrated?
I want to buy this because I will be needing to trench water and electric lines on 37 acres(or maybe 87 acres as another 50 acres is available). The primary acreage(25 & 12 acre parcels) is in 2 parcels about 1000 ft from each other with a right of way between the 2 parcels. I also will be trenching for passive cooling(laying air and water tubing) of greenhouses on the property. It won't be used day in and day but as the need arises. But I just want something that will be time efficient and overall cost efficient for the (over time) extended projects I have in mind.
Thanks
