Bought this YM2200 a while back. Deal was too good to pass up. $1000. for the tractor with the shredder. Hadn't run in years. No problem getting it started but I haven't really used it. Just had the starter rebuilt locally and it started right up again. I don't know all the controls on it yet, just the info I've been getting off the net. Think I have it all figured. Downloaded the Yanmar manual195_240.pdf, but there is a lever on the driver's side by the rear of the seat that I don't know what it is. I need to do some mowing, but I'm concerned with the 540/1000 PTO speed and I'm afraid this lever may have something to do with it. Here's a picture with a red circle around the lever I'm asking about. Thanks, Joe

I have some vague ideas, hopefully someone will come along who actually knows something.

1) Ym2200 and 2700 are a unique series, they have little in common with other YM models of their era.

2) So the YM240 manual (for tractors intended to be sold in the US) can only give you some idea of how Yanmar's designers think - but don't rely on any specific features in the YM240 manual. Advice on maintenance schedule etc should be fine.

3) YM240 has the universal 540 pto rpm plus 1000 rpm that is occasionally found on US tractors. In contrast, Yanmar models made for other than the US (including your YM2200) generally have 3 pto speeds, sometimes more. Only Yanmar-Japan implements can be run at the higher speeds. For that rotary mower use only 540!

4) Where that lever is, left rear from driver's position, suggests it is the gearshift for the pto - only because the other Yanmars have the pto shifter in that location. Shift pattern is likely 540 - N - fast - real fast, assuming it is a 3 speed pto. Note you have to come to a full stop and wait for the gears to spin down before any pto shift.

That's good to hear your tractor was reincarnated after a long time unused. My YM240 was similar. It looked worse than yours. After a month of repairing stuff neglected by the prior owner, it has now been troublefree for the 15 years I've owned it. Still looks like heck. :)

Copied this from another forum by Danny Parker, a guru on Yanmar tractors. I believe it to be correct information.

Billy, both levers control the pto, here is how it works.
both levers forward 1st
rear leaver forward - front leaver back 2nd
rear leaver back - front leaver forward 3rd
both leavers back 4th
1st 465rpms
2nd 587rpms
3rd 951rpms
4th 1200rpms @ about 2600 rpms

Really good info, and really appreciate the reply. Will try out the PTO later today. Thanks, Joe.

A "shredder" likes about 540 input rpm for best op speed, so guessing if all speeds are at 2600 rpm. 2nd speed at about 2400 would be best.

Has anybody heard from Danny recently? He was the specialist in YM2200. At one time he posted that he had a boneyard of several.

I think he's completely out of the Yanmar business now.

Went out and did some mowing behind the shop. Was an area there that I had been unable to mow since my MF 35 laid down a while back. The YM2200 Stepped up to the plate nicely. Now I see that the clutch is very low. Anyone know if there is a way to adjust this? Here's a couple of videos. Thanks, Joe.

Great video. I love the sound! These non-even-firing twins sound more furious than an engine with more cylinders.

For the clutch look in your YM240 manual. Or just look for a threaded rod in the clutch linkage and adjust to about 3/4 inch slack at top of travel. But if the present adjustment is sufficient to completely disengage the clutch, then I would just leave it.

He lives down south of me. He hasn't been around since the yanmar lawsuit.

I called him not long after yanmar started all the lawsuit crap and talked to him a little while.

He and his son also made and sold trailers. He said they had been busy with that business. They have a facebook page here Parker Utility Products, LLC - Home | Facebook

Danny was in his 70's. I hope he's doing well.
Danny was a yanmar dealer once and had parts books. I use to order from him
