We have a 60 Gallon water tank that we have on board a Mechron side by side. The wife usually runs the show on watering throughout the fall & winter. Problem is; she has the garden hose in the tank to fill it and sometimes gets distracted and it overflows. Anyone have a line on some sort of auto shut off gizmo we can put in the system??

Thanks for any input.

years ago I had a 300 gallon tank that I put a valve on, it was made using two 2x3 abs bell style reducers with a street hockey ball inside, put a screw nail inside so the ball can't seat down on bottom so water will drain out of tank.As the tank fills the air escapes until the ball floats to the top and seals against the top to stop the flow, tee it so that water is entering below the valve. I used quick attach hose couplers of the garden hose variety. Seal up the tank so you only have the tap on the bottom and the top of the open valve on top.

I assume if you are transporting it, it is a closed tank.

Install something like this in the tank

Get a hose quick connect to go with it.

It may restrict the flow a little, but the convenience may be worth it.

A "Little Giant" valve is about $10 at Tractor Supply and fits directly on the end of a garden hose...

Get a a 2x4 from the scrap pile that is long enough to reach the bottom of your tank thru the fill hatch....Duct tape the plastic stock tank valve to it at the desired height of the water...add a short piece of hose (from the scrap pile of course..!) and connect to your fill hose...

....turn the rig on and it will fill until the water reaches the valve, then shut off....

Step back and admire your ingenuity....

BSVLY No problem, sometimes it is best to ask to get the simple answers as NEW things are made all time and no one can keep up with them all. I didn't know about them 16 months ago & was looking for something to automatically cut off the WELL PUMP if it runs too long. I lost a pump because the Amish Concrete crew's 9 yr old helper turned on the hose set the handle lock & cleaned up tools & played in the water. it ran well dry (Not un-common for my well) and it was after VERY DRY summer.

Now if my pump runs for more than 8~12 min straight it will "lock out" requiring a manual reset. I didn't find one to buy cheaply enough (240VAC single phase no neutral) so I built my own 240VAC panel system that now takes all the PUMP LOAD off the pressure switch & runs on the 240VAC.
