Yanmar ym122
Hello,
I have two Yanmars but the one i am having a headache finding a starter is the little Yanmar YM122 .It is a 12 H.P. Deisel and i like the heck out of it! Problem is the starter is dying as i speak, and i cannot seem to find any place that sells them.It is a great little tractor with category 0 3-PT. Hitch. If anyone can help me find a starter please reply?:confused2:
Thanks,David

I would take it to a local starter shop & see if they can just rebuild it. The starter is a Hitachi 114-256. I have not been able to find much info on that starter online though.

When the starter went on my YM146, I brought it to a place that rebuilds starters and the guy looked at it and said "that's the same starter they used on a Dixie Choppers mower"..

The guy brought me out a brand new gear reduction version of the starter designed for the abuse of a diesel and gave it to me (a favor to my boss) and took my old one to resell.

Point is, there are alternative parts sources for the starters out there. Other parts for that thing are non-existant.

Paul, thank you for the schematic. I am going to take the starter off and send to a man who rebuilds starters for my nephew. Nephew dropped by last night and when i told him about it,he said he knew a man who rebuilds all the starters for his company. Since i haven't found anything else out about it,i am going to take a chance he can fix it. Wish me luck!
Thanks again,David

There is not too much to go wrong with a starter. The windings are heavy because they handle a lot of amperage. Problems start in the brushes and bearings, and solenoids. EASY to rebuild. Get it rebuilt .

Yes,i am going to do that. I used this little tractor to grade the gravel road in our subdivision here. I bought the DR Power grader and that is a good tool also. We are fighting the county to take the road over as their are about forty families here, but it is a hard battle so far. The road was a mess with hundreds of big potholes, but the little tractor pulling the grader smoothed it all out and actually brought old gravel back up.I have a 1700 Yanmar that has just been restored so i decided to use the little one. Works fine. If i can get the starter rebuilt,it will be good for me.
Thanks,David
