I had a large deep gully filled when I had some terraced acres cleared in preparation of becoming pasture. With all the rain we have had the erosion has already started again aand I would like to manage or minimize it if possible.
The first aerial shows the acreage before clearing and filling the gully. Second aerial has a line added showing the path the water takes.
My thought is to cut a small channel and route the water down to a stock pond. That route is on the third aerial.
Last picture shows the gully filled after clearing before starting to re - erode.
Not really sure whether this would be a good way to solve the issue or how to construct it.

Any thoughts?

How about directing the water to the pond at the bottom of the aerial first, then channeling any overflow to the pond at the top.

I would contact the NRCS staff at your local USDA office. I believe they will design a drainage plan for you at no charge.

The field on the other side next to my place drains through as well. If I routed part of it to the closer pond I'd still have to route the rest of it somewhere. The water looks like it has been running down the path for a very long time.

Thanks for the suggestion. I contacted them about another pond question a year ago and did not find them to be of much help but you never know....

With water too you may have other groups that you can contact for assistance.
Maby ducks unlimited,
here since we are in the chesapeak drainage area, the chesapeak bay foundation does some work and assistance with water, there may be a group similar to them in your neck of the woods.
or you could try contacting some universities they may do some work, or let the kids get some real life experience by helping you design it.

I'm not seeing much difference from what it's doing mow, and what you want to change it to?

Water is gonna cut through dirt, you need to slow it down & make the path harder - riprap, concrete, grass, other vegitation.

Think that would apply in any case?

Well I am hoping to direct that water to the larger of the two stock ponds on the acreage that is never full. As it is now it is water that makes my lower field soft for long stretches of the year which is a pain.
How to make the path to the stock pond to not erode and hopefully be able to do it myself is the goal.
