Need to make a new room for my twin baby

I have a wonderful 9 month old daughter. My wife was just told she is having twins! So, I'm trying to built a 3rd bedroom upstairs so that everyone can claim their own space.

I need some construction advice before I start cutting things.

Here's what the room I'd like to flip into a guest room looks like today from the outside.

Inside shots (the red lines are where I need to cut):

The floor area of this new room is about 16' x 13'. I think what I need to know is if I can just go ahead and cut those 2x12 rafters, or if I need to provide some secondary support.

I'm a little unclear what direction a few of the attic shots are taken from, but I'm pretty sure you're proposing cutting the main roof rafters, which is what the dormer is resting on. So no, you can't cut those or the dormer will collapse. It would help if you indicated what direction the front of the house faces, then label what direction you're facing in each of the attic shots, that would make it more clear.

You need professional help not TBN help. Architect or engineer in my opinion.

Without being on site, TBN would just be guessing... and my guess is you'll *need* support.

PS. Looks like you have a roof leak...

I agree with teg. It would be best for you to consult a qualified builder and carpenter. BTW, congratulations in regards to the announcement of you and your Wife's future additions to your Family.
