I'm working on a project to build a "foam gun" for aircrete with 4" PVC and want to seal the fittings TEMPORARILY because I'm not sure what sizes will work best, I expect to be trying to swap stuff around and the fittings run about $4 each. I will be putting air and water in under about 50lbs pressure. The fittings start off pretty tight without any bonding. I'm thinking of using a little bearing grease or smearing on teflon plumbing paste. Any suggestions?

I would think grease would make it easier to come apart.May-be "Gorilla Tape" on the out-side.

50 psi in PVC with a lower rating than DWV-Not smart!!! If it had the higher DWV rating (more than $4 fittings) most places (and the manufacture) won’t allow air testing. The ones that do only allow testing to 5-10psi. Even at that “low” pressure the failures are spectacular.
If 4” pvc at 50psi is the goal you will need to find a plumbing/underground wholesaler that sells things like fire hydrants.....but those fittings won’t be $4.
Read the writing on the PVC and fittings box. The words DWV or Drain aren’t rated for your application.

Is the 50lbs pressure in the supply pipe, and the 4in PVC doesn't have to contain it? Or is it a closed system that will stay pressurized to 50lbs?

I’m guessing this is all threaded fittings? If so I’d just use the pipe sealant paste.

Yeah, I failed to mention that I planned on using the black Gorilla tape for a seal, and maybe also HF cargo straps, because obviously if it's supposed to slip apart any pressure would blow it apart. I may have to put in studs.

This thread was asking what do you think would be the best sealant that was not permanent.

No, I'm going to put a female adaptor with drain/cleanout plug on the ends.
/edit the adaptor is smooth fit / threaded.

For temporary couplings, I use two hose clamps on each end of the coupling, with two pieces of heavy mule tape clamped tightly between them on opposite sides of the coupling. It will hold 50 pounds of water pressure, and that's with an outside coupling on slick poly pipe.

latex caulk can be disassembled on smooth fittings, I knock it apart with the backside of a machete.

strips of rubber inner tube can generate a ton (probably a literal ton) of pressure to hold stuff like this together. just wrap it a bunch of times going up and down with a 1" wide strip and finish it with a clove hitch kinda thing
