Need Waterproof Horn Button

Hey Jerry,

Before you say it, I'll say it.....

Even though I don't have my tractor yet, you've encouraged me to think ahead to the time when I do have my tractor and what kind of "additions" I'll put on it.

Well, I decided I'm going to mount a horn button on the deck just behind where my left foot rests. When I drove over-the-road buses, we had a horn button on the floor, so all you had to do was step on the button with the heel of your shoe to sound the horn. It worked great! It leaves your hands free to be turning the wheel, or in the case of the tractor, using the shuttle shift lever, fel joystick, or whatever. It also keeps you from having to bend over a little bit to reach the button.

What do you think? Has anybody tried mounting a horn this way? I know after using it for awhile in the coach, I really missed it in my truck!

Boy...after all the crap I took from my wife when I installed a horn, I'm glad to see you guys are doing it too !!

I'm not the only tractor "geek" /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I use the horn to signal the kids to get out of the way. I also pull right up to the front door and give it good blast. Works really well to summon the wife.

Here's the old thread for the complete story: Added a Horn

Garry, I like that foot switch idea.

I work on a graphics computer all day and I have had carpal tunnel problems in the past. Once, I suggested to my employer that if they hooked up the first mouse button to a foot switch I could lessen the repetitive strain to my hand by sharing the task with my foot.

They thought I was quite insane /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Oh yes, I would also like a foot switch to operate a trap door right in front of my desk. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

( So what is the horn button for? The most useful thing I can think of is to save my voice from yelling up the hill for my wife to bring me a beer. . . )

I don't need one for that.

I do need one that says, "Wife, take the dog in the house. She's standing in front of the tractor again and won't move."

Or one that says, "Wife, move that tree limb out of the way so I don't have to get off the tractor to move it myself."

Boy, I can relate to that!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

It would be like that MSN commercial where the guy (dressed as butterfly!?) is standing on the front porch and jerking the handle to open the trap door when all of the spam offers keep showing up!

That's the place to put it - at the door! And to keep this on topic, the horn could be hooked up to sound off as the handle is pulled! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I think I'd need a whole bunch of other things if I had my horn designed to talk to my wife that way!! /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

A Horn? That's a stupid thing to put on a tractor. Anyway thats what I used to think. But then I put a set on my last rig and you would be surprised how often they really did come in handy. So now that I traded up to the New Holland its also going to have a set of twin horns as well. I get the high/low set from JC Whitney they sound great! Besides I have to outdo my neighbors as well.....

Well, the horn says beep-beep, but the wife knows what I REALLY mean when I'm trying to get her attention. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I just saw an AAHRUUGHA horn in the Northern Equipment catalog that arrived in yesterday's mail.

Only $11.99. Hmmm. Maybe.

But has anyone found a waterproof foot switch yet? Placing it on the left floor really sounds like a good spot, as long as it doesn't get pressed every time the differential lock is pressed. I'll have to look to make sure I have enough space down there.

But I need to finish the lights on my ROPS before I start another project. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
