My neighbor has been eyeing my new L3830 ever since he saw the dealer drop it off last week. He came over Sunday afternoon and wanted to know if he could borrow the tractor and my box blade to work on his 300' gravel driveway. I told him okay even though that would mean I could not be on the tractor (I find it hard to stay away from the tractor for very long). I could hear him working through the woods that seperate our houses and it sounded like he wasn't having any problems. He brought my baby, whoops, I mean my tractor back after an hour and a half and he could not stop complimenting it. His exact words were "This must be the Cadillac of tractors." I told him I sure thought it was close. I have a feeling he will be asking to borrow it a lot more often now. I will be happy to lend it to him as long as it doesn't cut into MY seat time!

You are FAR more generous and trusting than I would be. I would consider it about the same as asking to borrow my wife. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif Just my opinion here as I don't know your neighbor or the relationship you have with him. It is of course your machine but I would caution you on loaning it out. If it is insured on your home owner's policy, it may not be covered if your neighbor is using it on his property. Your neighbor may not fully understand the operating procedures or limits of your tractor and unknowingly damage it. Bottom line is; if he needs a tractor, he should go buy or rent one. My policy is, if it has an engine or motor, I do not loan it out. You could be risking your friendship as well as the tractor loaning it out. Just my thoughts and 2 cents worth. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Congratulations on a great tractor by the way!

I generally agree with Chief. I'd be very cautious about loaning my tractor to other people, generally just wouldn't do it. However, my two brothers used my tractors, and I had ONE neighbor who was welcome to use my equipment anytime he wanted to. So I assumed that maybe you have such a neighbor.

Lawrence, I had a similar experience. My neighbor tried my L3830 HST with the loader off. He has used his JD 790 for about 2 years now. He was unfamiliar with HST, I'm not sure if he still understands it, but after a few minutes of fooling around my place with it, he was about as converted as anyone can be. Even the next morning he was still talking about it, asking me what other models were available. They do make an impact on people. Rat...

I have to second that. My Brotherinlaw loved mine. He has, I believe a 5320 J deere or bigger. Fatherinlaw loved it as well. He owns an 850 John deere. Of course they love their Jonn deers as well. Just loved the smoothness of my L3830. ---Shane

I guess I should mention that my family and my neighbor's family have owned land next to each other for over 100 years and have always treated each other as if we were family. We have been loaning things back and forth for years. I totally trust my neighbor and I am sure that he would do the right thing and admit it if he tore up my tractor, as I would do to him.
