Neighbor\'s 89 Case 585 clutch R+R

Friend has a 89 Case 585. It needs a clutch.
He asked me to look into getting one.
Where should I look and how much can I expect to pay for this.

How hard would it be for the two of us to change a clutch.
I changed plenty of clutches in my old truck over the years.
What is the basic procedure for this tractor.

Thanks for any info you can give me.

Re: Neighbor\'s 89 Case 585 clutch R+R

Our neighbours have a 585 as well and we have been using a 584. The 584 had a new clutch put in it last year by a local guy for 1500$ or so.

JDParts used to show clutch kit prices, I think it was around 500-800$

If you have the loader off and no cab, you need to split the tractor at the bellhousing so you can get too the clutch. The split line is approximately below the steering wheel.

This can be fun, especially on dirt floor. I've never done it myself but friends have. Generally one side gets picked to be blocked to take the weight off. The other gets supported from above or below and gets pulled away. I've seen it done on concrete floor with a set of rollers welded on to hold up that end.

The tranny is drained before starting cause I think it is a wet clutch, not sure though. Once apart the clutch is replaced and the flywheel is removed and taken to be resurfaced.

One thing to note before starting is the clutch is adjustable so check that first.

Thanks for the info.

Do you know anyplace online that I can find it and get prices.

I just split my 8n a couple of days ago to change a clutch.
I don't have a garage so just found a flat spot in the yard.
It all went fairly smoothly. Probably never get it back together.
Seems to be about the same process for the 585.
My neighbor said he would probably hire it out to be changed.
But would like to find the parts at a better price.

Thanks.

Slowzuki, single plate dry, no adjust except for pedal height as 85 series is constant mesh TO bearing.
PBear I answered you on another forum. Did you find something at good price? It's maybe haldf day job, not including flywheel transportation/turning. Tell your buddy there's a teflon spacer to keep fingers from wearing available from CNH or it can be set up with freeplay like earlier models. This is really important because the fingers can wear out before plate.

I sent an email to that address yesterday, noted it was for Nick.
Haven't heard back from them.

I'd like to find some websites to look at about this.
Haven't been able to find anything.
