Has anyone used one of the little electric Neuton mowers that Country Home Products is selling now? My wife seems to think I ought to buy one since it has the mower/edger/trimmer all in one.

I haven't used one Bird, but at $399, they seem a little pricey. One could easily get a new gas mower and an electric weed eater for half that.

Plus 'starts effortlessly with a push of a button'. Who wants that . . . sounds too easy! /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

In all seriousness, the trimming part of the mower looks like it would be kind of difficult to use. Perhaps more work than a hand-held. Are there other electric mowers out there to look at?

One last thought, when my wife and I were newly married we had a very small yard (think trailer lot). I bought a new reel mower for about $50 and mowed with it for two years. It gave a great cut and my neighbors were always borrowing it. When we moved to a new home with a larger lot (70'x100') it was really too small, although I occasionally mowed the front yard with it. Had to watch for sticks though, as it was easy to jam. Almost zero maintanence though, never had to sharpen or adjust anything, but did spray it from time to time with WD-40

John, you can buy electric mowers that use a cord quite a bit cheaper, but for battery powered the only thing I've seen is the Black & Decker and it's not cheaper and doesn't have the trimmer/edger. Of course the Black & Decker is an 18" and the Neuton is only 14" (definitely for small yards). I like the idea of one unit to do all, easy to change batteries, the quietness of electric, and not having to mess with gas and oil. The only reason I'm considering it is because I think I'm going to buy this. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

It looks like, for family reasons, I'm going to have to stay here close in town for quite some time and my wife and daughter think we ought to buy that next door to our youngest daughter and grandson. It'll be cheaper than renting an apartment and if or when we get out of town again, I figure I couldn't lose too much on the deal. And of course, I don't really have to buy a lawnmower since I'll be next door to my 14 year old grandson and his Lawnboy. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Well, it looks like that property will require at least a BX1500, if not larger. Too bad you sold your 2710, it might have been just about perfect. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Noticed the lot rental . . . ouch! That's a lot more than I paid in the late 80's ($90) and that was at the nice park in town. Not too bad a price on the dwelling though.

I think I would just let the grandson come over and mow it for $10. Maybe you could spark some entrepreneurial (sp /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif) interest in him. When I was that age I made quite a bit of $ mowing lawns. At least I thought it was a lot of money at the time.

Yep, John, I couldn't believe the lot rental around here. RV parks are the same way. My brothers have been staying in Elm Mott for $150 a month and up here by us it's just over $400 a month.

And, yes, my grandson already has a number of customers in the park. And $10 is what he charges them to mow their little yards. The lease agreement says you have to keep it mowed and if you don't, they'll mow it and add $50 to your rent each time they mow it. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
