I just purchased a 128 with these attachments; tiller, mower deck, moldboard plow, a wood chipper and a front blade. Only the front blade and the tiller show signs of much use. Also it has a manual lift and the low range transmission.
The seller threw in a John Deere hydrostatic drive with a mower deck attached.
The JD runs and seems to be OK except it looks a little rough, OK very rough. I was told it has the same engine as the cub. The seller said the cub needs a carb kit otherwise it is OK. As it is it won't start.
I paid the guy $1,000 for the whole setup. The guy has been out of work for 18 months so I didn't feel like trying to get him to lower his price. My plans are to restore the 128 as much as I can. It looks like it mostly need repainting.
Now first question. Was this price way out of line?
Second question. The engine is a Kohler 301 any recommendations where one can find carb kits? There is nobody here locally that sells parts.
Thanks in advance,
Bob B.

Bob,

Great find!! I'm a fellow Cub Cadet owner and I can assure you that it is a great machine that you will enjoy for years to come. I own and operate a Cub 122 with the same K301a motor that you have. When well tuned it has a lot of power and can be tuned for more if desired.

Price is truely relative to the owner but it sounds like you got quite a few attachments and options which makes it a lot better deal. The 'creeper gear' option alone is a couple of hundred bucks if you had to buy it seperate.

There is a wealth of information, parts and retrofit attachments out there for these machines. I'll pm you with some more information that may help you with specifics.

Good luck!
Brian

A carb kit should be a common item and available at any NAPA, JD dealer, or cub dealer or any shop that sells anything Kohler. If you can't find it locally, try http://www.partstree.com

You got a heck of a good buy! The JD should have a version of the K-series engine depending on its age.
