I just got my used 1500D from tractorco.com and man am I excited. Can't think of a better BDay present. Anyway... I have come across a few questions that I can't find an answer for...

1) What is the lever that is just below the PTO shifter on the left side. I can't locate a label or anything.

2) Yellow light I assume is overheating... yes?

3) There is a little wire under the seat with no apparant connection for it, could this have been lighting?

4) There is a L<-->R rotating switch on the dash. What the heck is it for?

5) I have heard several mention the knob under the seat... what does this do?

6) ROPs? Do you have one? What are my options? What do you like or don't like about what you have?

Thanks... in advance for any time you spend to answer my obvious n00b questions... I have more but will put those in specific areas.

1) The lever on the left (behind your heel) is the 4wd control. Back engages the front axle.
2) I think you are right. I installed gauges on mine and do not use the lights.
3) ?
4) That switch turns on the blinkers on the fenders.
5) The knob controls the 3 pt hitch. I keep mine fully open. I think it is supposed to control the rate at which the attachment on the hitch falls when you lower the control.
6) I highly recommend you get a ROPS. My CFO insisted that I buy one when she found out they were available.

Thanks for all the answers.

I suspect that the stray wire under the seat could be for the non-existent fender lights then. Makes sense now.

I did not suspect that the 4x4 front end was even an option for not using it. Makes sense as well... there were times when I noticed the FWD not engaging. Never thought that level did naything as it moves so freely... now I know.

Thanks again for such a rapid and complete response!!

I find it unusual that your dealer failed to go over any of that stuff with you. Good luck.

Ya. I know. There is a long story about me getting the tractor. Mostly my fault as things that day were a terror. Ended up being very late in the day and Mitch could not make it. I picked up the tractor at a remote site and the guy there was a great mechanic but new to working with Mitch. He admitted that he was NOT knowledgable with Yanmars. I did not know enough to ask. I just wanted to get the thing on the trailer and get back home. Seattle to Rainier in evening rush hour really sucked.

So far... I have no complaints about my dealer. A little slower than here for getting information though. I feel like I got a killer deal on the package, so far so good.

Congrats on your new tractor, I have been well pleased with my 1610D FWD unit. You may want to consider getting a manual for your 1500D and above all a ROPS and PTO shield from someone like Little Miami Trading Company - Compact Tractors or your dealer. I am currently trying to get some spacers made for a dual wheel setup on these things so it will make them more stable on steep ground. If you do a search on this forum for dual wheels there will be some very good information. California posted a link to the best one I have read. The posters here are very informative and some like California and Wayne at LMTC have a wealth of knowledge on these things. Distance may hinder you on some shipping times etc., but I think you will enjoy your 1500D. Just be careful on the steep ground, and get that OSHA approved ROPS ASAP.
