Tractor
n/a
The local Cub dealer has a couple NEW 2011 Yanmar tractors on the lot. There is not much of an Ag market for this location so they have had the tractors since Cub pushed them to carry a full product line.

I have my eye on the Sc2400 with the FEL and 60" mmm and should be able to get a deal on it. I will be using it to maintain about 12 acres of a property that I share with my father who has a CC Pro Z 760 zero turn for mowing.

My question: Is there anything to be worried about a tractor that has been sitting on the lot since 2011? Could that have any ramifications for the little diesel motor that had not have been "broke in"? I know they move it around the lot for display, but I doubt it's ever been worked much or seen any significant work. The dealer has been using the bigger tractor at his house this year without any issues.

I think the tractor would come with the warranty as it is a "new" tractor. Due to my history and relationship to the dealer I also would not go anywhere else but them for parts and service.

Welcome to the site Hammer!

Why don’t you tell us what you plan to do with a tractor on your 12 acres and we can weigh in on whether we think the sc2400 with mmm would be a suitable machine. Sub compacts with mid mount mowers are very limited on ground clearance and may not be able to handle the implements you need to manage your property.

If they have been starting it a few times a year to warm it up and move it around their lot property then that's perfect. I wouldn't have the slightest concern about its age. Those are nice tractors. Top quality mechanically.

Here's some more to think about. This ability to sit for years without deterioration is one of the big advantages that diesels have over gasoline engines. Gasoline is a solvent, and the lighter organic fractions that evaporate as gasoline ages can cause nearby rubber components to age prematurely. That goes for internal seals and O rings in the engine and tranny as well.
But the composition of diesel fuel makes it closer to being a light lubricating oil. Diesel is much less aggressive and doesn't generate the active vapors that gasoline does.
If the tractor has been started periodically it should be as good as new as far as engine and running gear goes. Six years isn't long in the life of a tractor.
Now if it has been in direct sunlight for six years you can expect to find some deterioration on things like hoses, tires, guage faces....all the plastic and rubber external parts.
That won't affect major reliability, but will mean that these exterior parts have some small percentage of their lifespan used up as they harden in the sun.

rScotty, thanks for the awesome info, definitely makes me feel more comfortable in my consideration.

That does make sense about the different fuels. I think they have spent most of time under the sheds or garages unless being displayed out on the lot. The external parts look to be in good shape with not a lot of weathering.

The plan would be to use it mainly to mow the few acres around the house and keep the rest of the property knocked down. The tractor will share the work load with a commercial zero turn.

I am looking at a tractor because I don稚 see it necessary to get another zero turn on the property since my father already has one. The advantage I see of the tractor is that it has a FEL and a belly mower. It would also be nice to have the rear PTO to occasionally run a small brush cutter a few times a year to keep the woods and shrub growth at bay.

I owned the TLB version of this Tractor, if it runs, oil pressure is up, and the tires aren't cracked from sitting, it is a great tractor.
Just the right size for smaller areas and with the BackHoe, a nice package and it will work hard for you.
Just keep the maintenance up to date.
Listen to it run, mine was very quiet, its a diesel but still quiet for a small diesel.

The engine is the same as in a Kubota, stronger than the tractor I haven a 28 HP Mahindra.

Its only limits is its weight and the lifting power of the FEL is low but worked well for me.

Good Luck
