New 2550

In a previous post I asked about the 2544/3100. After some debate I decided the 3100 was just serious overkill. I went the the 2500 series but the 2550 in stead of the 44. My dealer feels the 50" deck mows with out clogging and bags better than the 44". It appeares the shute opening is much larger on the 50" which helps alleviate clogging. I did see a few posts with complaints of this happening.

I just hope the 2550 holds up as well as my 18 year old 1420 has. That's right folks, MTD built Cub for 18 years. One drive belt, a few deck belts and a coil on the Kohler engine 3 years ago. It's still a great lawn tractor, just can't quite deal with what I'm asking it to do now.

2550 should be delivered to me by the end of the week. All is good with the world.

Welcome aboard Mike! You'll find good info & people on this board. That 50" will do a nice job for you. The 44" on my 2544 has yet to let me down with my mowing conditions. It's been awesome. The 50" will be a bit easier to mow around trees, etc, as it sticks out from the sides of the tractor more.

Looks like you went with the larger deck. You will like it but it is a little more effort to manhandle it when the deck needs to be removed.

Sounds like your dealer was saying what I did in the other post.

When I was shopping for a tractor I had some very high(abt 18" in some places), heavy, wet grass to deal with. The std 44" deck failed miserably, killed the engine twice before I got around the area one time. A week later on same patch of grass and large deck, the tractor and deck did the job without breathing hard.
