Mahindra 2615 HST
Well, its finally going to happen. I'll be taking delivery of my new tractor this week. I have selected the 2615 HST with FEL and toothbar and a 6ft finish mower. My days on the riding lawnmower cutting acres of lawn and field are over. I may have time to do all the other things I wanted to do while I was mowing for hours and hours!

Any technique tips on handling a 3pt RD finish mower?

Thanks for reading,
Ben

Congrats on the new tractor! What kind of tires did you get (turf, industrial, ag)? Sounds like you plan to do a good bit of finish mowing so I assume you got the turf or industrial. What kind of finish mower did you get? I don't have a finish mower yet and am interested in how the 2615 performs with one. Keep us posted.

Good luck,

BR

I got the industrial tires and a KK 72" finish mower. I got a RMF because I did not want to sit over a MMM because of dust, I want the weight in the back if needed for FEL work, and partly because the near by TSC has the parts for it.
I guess I seem focused on the mowing thing because its been such a pain for so long. I have other projects on the list like landscaping, rock moving, brush clearing, small pond building, and digging out an old tank - thus the industrial tires.

Thanks,

Ben

I opted for the gear model (2615 4WD) with the FEL and industrial tires back in August. I haven't purchased a RFM yet, as that wasn't a priority for me. I do plan to eventually get a RFM one of these days. I have a 60" KK rotary cutter and a 60" KK boxblade. I've done plenty of the other things you mentioned (landscaping, rock moving, brush clearing, etc.) and have been very pleased so far. I only have just over 40 hours on it as I only get seat time primarily on the weekends.

Good luck with your new machine and keep us posted on the performance of the RFM.

Thanks,

BR

I have a 2615 HST and a Woods RD7200 Finish mower. I mow 8 acres of grass every two weeks during mowing season. The only tips I can give you for the RFM are:

1. It sits waaaaaaaay behind your rear wheels so be very cautious of where it is when maneuvering especially during tight turns.

2. I don't think it's possible to grease the ground wheel bearings and casters too often, I hit mine with grease before each use.

3. Even with the chain guard I have on the back of mine it will chuck a rock a surprisingly long distance.

One more tip re: your new tractor (not really related to the RFM question) Be sure that your dealer has performed the recent recall on your FEL/engine mounting bolts if you have an FEL. keeping those suckers tight is a PITA!! I just sent mine to the dealer Friday to take care of that and another problem I've been having with mine.

Enjoy!

I'm going to hijack the thread. What's this about the FEL/engine mounting bolts recall?

Do you know what they do? I had my bolts loosen up once but then I tightened them up with Loctite and haven't had problems since.

Still, if there is a factory recall/fix then I want to at least know what it is.

Thanks,

PB

Those same bolts you tightened have a Mahindra recall/repair on them. Basically the dealer is supposed to remove each bolt (one at a time only!) clean the bolt and hole apply loctite (I cant remember the specification but they called for a specific blend) and retorque the bolts to another specification I can't remember offhand.

I recieved a card in the mail from Mahindra USA about this, you should recieve one as well, if you bought your tractor new. If you haven't had any further problems with those bolts then you cured the problem, and really have no need to worry about it unless you want the dealer to do the work to the specifications called out by Mahindra.

I have had trouble with those bolts from hour 2. The manual said to retighten them at 10 hours and I lost my first one in 2 hours. My dealer put loctite on them when I sent the tractor for it's 50 hour service and within 5 hours I had lost 2 more and serveral others were loose again. I even drilled a the heads and safety wired a couple of the worst offenders, to no avail they will not stay tight.

Mines at the dealer right now resolving this problem, hopefully.

Great, thanks for the info. I now have a copy of the recall info and will contact the dealer about it.

Too bad safety wire did not solve the issue for you. I would have done - or tried - the same thing!

As for mowing I will be starting at 6 inches high and hopefully won't be throwing too many rocks -or golf balls /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Thanks for the info on the recall.

My usual response to loosening bolts is to clean them up and put some red loctite on them. Must have worked because it's been about 70 hours since I did it and I've done some serius FEL work and they are still tight.

I'm glad it was something simple like that. I didn't want to have to pester my dealer for parts let alone drag the tractor in.

I dream of a day when all manufacturers just post this information on the net.

Thanks again,

PB

Good choice! I have a 2615 gear with 6 ft RFM. I'm quite happy with my selection. The RFM works well for me since I can detach it to work when I need more ground clearance and like previously mentioned it functions as ballast for loader work since my tires aren't loaded. As mcouey mentioned they track behind you in such a way as to make it very easy to swing them in to something on turns. A few scars on my unit will verify that. And yes, they will do a dandy job of flinging debris! I don't lube as often as he does but I do check often to see that it still has enough grease on the lube points. If not it gets a squirt. Getting your height right can be a challenge. I started off high because my land is rough but as I have worked out some of the worst spots I'm getting ready to drop down some. Not sure how much yet, likely not much. Anti scalp rollers are a good thing on RFMs. Have fun 426DMB.
