2002 L3010 HST
First I would like to say thanks for all the great info on this board. It really helped me make my final decision on the Kubota 3010. It should be delivered today. I'm new to the board and far from a message board expert, as the subject indicated, but I lurked around for a while and could not resist joining in the obvious comradery of fellow compact tractor owners. I have operated a Massey Ferguson 165(65 hp) in my younger years but its been a while since those days. I will be taking care of about 10 acres of hilly land doing light gardening, bush hogging, gravel road maintenance, and general landscaping. There is so much knowledge on these pages that I feel like a kid in a candy store as I read the posts. Enough babbling though. My first question is a simple one (I think). I have some equipment remaining from those Massey days, one item is a 6' king kutter rotary cutter. I am wondering if this might be too heavy to pull through multiflora rose and slightly rocky fields with my 3010. I also have a 3-bottom plow and have been told I could make it a 2-bottom fairly easily and this would'nt be too much too pull through the semi-soft garden. Any feedback would be appreciated, thanks. P.S. Please be patient with me as I am a novice tractor user and computer user. Can't wait to get home tonight and put her to work!!!!

Chris,

I sure think the 3010 should handle your 6’ cutter. You may have to run in low range through the heavy stuff the first time you cut. Now a 3 bottom plow may be a bit much. I think you will have better luck if you convert it to a 2 bottom unit. In your other post you were asking about a 7’ rear blade. I use a 6’ on a 20 hp tractor. Before you purchase a blade, keep in mind that when you angle it you lose about a foot of its width. A 7 footer should still cover your tire foot print but I would check.

Welcome to the forum and have some fun with that new 3010.

You might wish to check with King Kutter re. the recommended pto horsepower. If it's a lighter duty unit &/or you don't intend to tackle more than tall weeds and a modest amount of brush, you could be just fine. However, if the King Kutter was appropriate for a 65 hp tractor, and you have some major work in mind for your 3010 HST, think again. The 3010 HST per the Kubota manual lists 24 pto hp (your MF must have had twice that much). I have a 3410 GST that is 28.5 pto hp, and I have bogged down my tractor (had to cut 1/2 to 1/3 widths in the heavy stuff) with a Woods BB 600, which is a 5' width (admittedly a very heavy duty unit- marginal for my tractor's capabilities). So, check out the stats, and be realistic about what you need to cut through. That said, if you can tolerate only using 1/2 or so of the brush cutter's width in anything thick/heavy, you'll get by, and obviously will save some money.
As to covering the tractor's tread with a box blade - 6' works for your unit, and I would not recommend anything larger unless you're just smoothing driveways and the like. I've R-4 tires and FWD - I've run out of traction many times with my 6' box blade full of dirt - no big deal, but if I had a semi-full 7' box, I'd be spending a lot of time stationary. Can't comment on regular blades though - they don't fill up as much - the dirt just spills out the sides - so you could be fine with 7'. I'd defer on that question to my more experienced colleagues.

the size of the cutter, depends on what you want to cut with it, if it is light stuff u should be ok, and the 7 ft rear blade will be fine, i have a 6t on my b2400 and in most cases it can handel it.

Congrats on the new tractor.

I also have the Brush Bull 600. I wouldn't recommend the 72" for the 3010 as the power just isn't there for any tough cutting. (I also have bogged down the 3410 in thick wet weeds with 2-3" trees)

On plowing, I was using a 2-12" bottom plow this weekend. The ground was soft from recent rain and there were no problems except for areas of heavy blackberry bushes. The land has been sod bound for at least 25 years. You must have a large garden if you are going to use a bottom plow! Good luck and have fun!
