I am purchasing a new 3130 (FST - 4wd) with LA723 loader and BH90 backhoe. I am specifying the R4, Industrial tires. I noticed that some are purchasing "low profile" tires. What is the advantage to low profile tires as opposed to standard sized Industrial tires? I like the standard sizes that I have seen on local tractors. When ordering, do I need to specify tire sizes or should I just specify "standard R4's"?

On the specifications page, they specify the "Standard Tire Size" as being 7.2-16 for the front and 12.4-24 for the rear. Under the tread section just below, they mention the front tread (I am assuming the tire height) as being 45.5" and list four different hights for the rear tread ranging from 47.2" to 58.3". This is a little confusing. Are they providing various heights of the four tire types, Galaxy, Turf, Industrial, and Agricultural? If so, I assume the "standard" height would be 54.4" for Industrial tires.

I am ordering remotely and having the tractor delivered. I am wanting to be sure I explain everything to be sure I get what I want...

Any other advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

NB

The industrial tires for your tractor should be 420x70-24. That is a low profile tire (70 series). It is much wider than a standard industrial.

My 6 year old 3410 has had them on the whole time and they have been trouble free. BUT, they will clog up in mud and only provide about 1/2 to 1/3 the traction of an R1 Ag tire.

Oh, the "tread" you are talking about is the left tire center to right tire center distance. So, it is width between tires and not height of a tire. It is adjustable by taking apart the wheel and center rim and putting them together in various configurations. For BH work, you will be wanting them set to the widest, or second widest for stability.

Enjoy the new machine!

Are you only going to use the tractor for backhoe and loader work in semi-firm soil on relative mild sloping terrain? If you are going to use the tractor with other ground engaging attachments in wet, soft, and slippery conditions, you might consider R-1's; my R-4's on my L-35, provide very little traction in those conditions. The tires load up like slicks!! The down side with your 723 loader capacity, may challenge the front tires load capacity if they are R-1's. R-4's maybe more durable for your type of work, but add at least $400 more to the bottom line. I have used my backhoe and loader to pull and push me out of some slippery conditions also!

I appreciate the information. I discussed with the dealer and the tires are the low profile 420x70-24. I will be using on dry, hard ground for the most part and I believe the R4's are best suited for my needs.
