Welcome to the forum. Is this your first tractor or first Yanmar?

This is my second Yanmar but the largest compact,so far its impressive, just a bit slow when I set the loader in the down position, all other positions work fairly quickly

Should definitely be as fast down as up, if not, might be a valve problem.

Congrats. IMHO, the YM336D is the flagship Yanmar model....at least it certainly was at one time. Did you get it with turfs or Ag tires?

The 336 uses a proportioning valve which decides how to share the hydraulic flow between the power steering, loader, and the 3 pt. lift. The primary flow demand is owned by the power steering circuit, which always gets enough pressure and flow to operate. At low engine RPM there won't be enough flow to work the PS and the loader at the same time....so loader speed suffers at low RPM. It's odd, but weird loader operation at low engine RPM is not a malfuncion That's normal.
Have fun! rScotty

rscotty, mine only does it when lowering the loader, all other positions are quick and smooth, almost acts like a dead head, I think the 3pt position may have something to do w it, I will look closer the next time I am out there and have it running. It has good down pressure just groans as you let it down...

Well, I groan too sometimes..... But seriously, you ought to get the Yanmar 336D shop manual. There are still original ones around with the excellent printing and photos on classy paper. Expect to pay a hundred bucks or better for one of those. Reprints are quite a bit less in resolution and price. The info is the same. The last 12-20 pages of the 2" thick manual give an excellent overview of how Yanmar wants the hydraulic system to work.

The 3 pt lift is pressure up and gravity down so you know it will act differently depending on which way it moves. But the loader is different. It uses pressure to go up or down (or curl or straighten the bucket) and nothing should care or differ because of which direction it is going. Nor should the rear lift lever or lift position have any influence on things....although the power steering will certainly do so. Most Yanmar hydraulic problems are caused by a dirty hydraulic filter. The YM336D has two - one under the PTO shaft and one under your right foot. The rear one is cleanable. The front one you replace. Use JD303 hydraulic oil. I prefer OEM Yanmar parts - particularly filters. Some people prefer aftermarket.

I'd first get the manual and make sure your hydraulic hoses are hooked up right. Looking at the manual, I can see at least one way that you could get those symptoms simply by hooking the hoses wrong. And wrong connections might not affect the steering becasause of the proportioning valve. Oh, and might as well change the oil and filters. Then let us know and we can go from there.
good luck, rScotty

I don't suppose you are in the float position and not the power down detent on your loader?

The groaning is what makes me think that because the bushings may be sticky and gravity may be all that is moving it against the weight of the loader.

Oops I see where you said its got power in down position so disregard what I said sorry. :)

it actually sounds normal when its in float on the way down,it only strains when applying down pressure, its a yanmar loader and I think its connected correctly, the fluids are new however the screen under the pto has not beens serviced so I have to do that but not til the weather improves........
