New 4x20 series v. mid frame 4000\'s
Fellow posters: In an earlier post, I inquired about the new large frame compact John Deere's. I recently bought a 4310 which I really like, except that it lacks some gumption on long climbs and in transport duties. Unfortunatelyfor me , I spend a lot of my tractor time hauling things from one place to another - generally up a down a long gravel road with a 10-12% grade - so this is an important task and I become a little frustrated that my tractor doesn't have a bit more power. With a heavy load, I must run in "a" range or in "b" range with loadmatch engaged, which will slow my ground speed to about 3-4 mph to prevent stalling. Both through advice shared by my fellow posters and by the advice of my dealer, I have run and run my new tractor recently to "break it in." Although it is better after 50 hours of use I do not think it will gain enough grunt make me 100% satisfied with its mid range power. What I would like is better performance in "B" range on hilly terrain. I take many buckets of material up and down these long grades which can be time-consuming with my current machine. I know about the new 3000 series, but they seem to be delayed in their release (this concerns me about a potential manufacturing glitch) and the proposed 3720, with it extra power, may not be released until later in the year. This fact has prompted me to look at the 4120 and 4320 models. I am curious as to whether new owners of these machines feel they offer the power I seek, and whether the Power Tech engines have been reliable. I REALLY do not need a tractor that physical size (or cost) but would consider it if I could achieve a substantial performance upgrade. I purchased my current machine from my old hometown JD dealer, which is two hours away. Our local dealer (who I also know well) has two 4320 tractors to try, but both are 12/12's and I definitely want hydro, so the comparison would not be direct. They also are apparently not getting any hydro's soon, and have no word on the new 3000 series. Overall though, I am quite pleased with my 4310, I just need more beans. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance for the input.
