I was not happy with the stock location of the operating lever down by my left heal on my newest Mahindra. So, I added an additional operating lever bolted onto the stock stuff. Lever is made out of a piece of bent steel I had laying around from a trailer wheeljack project I had done, a hunk of 3/8" rod, and a 1/2" bolt. With the 4X4 heal lever down in 4X4, the new lever is in it's forward position [ black plastic sticking up on left side of seat ]. When the stock lever is up, the new lever is back beside the seat in its rearward position. Bolted the new lever onto the stock outfit with the pictured 5/16" gold colored bolt. Life is GOOD....!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

It was a lot easier to put into 4X4 than shut the 4X4 off, and that is backwards to my thinking. I wanted to make it easier so I could not get into the lazy habit of leaving it in 4X4 when I should not have, and put extra stress on my front axle. I unhooked the cotter key down by the transmission and pulled the snap ring off the pivot to take the lever all the way off, but looked like you have to take the sheet metal off under the seat to get it to slide all the way off the shaft. So I just greased it and put it back together. I then clamped in place the galvanized bracket I had shortened [ part of a clamp for a trailer tongue wheel ] and then drilled a hole to mount it with a couple short drills and a 90 degree air drill. Then kind of figured about what angle I needed to come off that with the 3/8" rod, took it apart and welded it. Pretty easy, except the assembly guy always rushes things before the paint is 100% dry, and now he has some black paint on his fingers... but... that is normal for that idiot.... [ I don't know what my wife saw in him ] :)

Good idea! Thanks, I find the 4X4 lever on my 1538 equally awkward so maybe I'll copy your fix.
