Tractor
Mahindra 5010 4WD HST Cab, Mahindra 2615 Gear, Scag Tiger Cat 48", Gravely 42" ZTR, EZ GO Gas Golf Cart
My new 5010 4WD HST Cab arrived last Friday and over the weekend I started working with it. This tractor is much bigger and more powerful than my 06 2615 that is for sure. I believe the specs say this tractor has a lifting capacity of 2,991 lbs. for the loader. I went to a pile of dirt left from the pole barn build last summer to play around with the loader. When I lift a full bucket of dirt the backend is coming off the ground so I put the box blade on and that helped. But, it still seems like it is trying to come off the ground, now maybe the dirt weighs that much but would not think so. This is a much larger bucket than my 2615 but it does not come off the ground with a full bucket of dirt.

Anyone have a 5010 who can comment on their experience? I don't have a way to determine how much I am picking up or what the full bucket of dirt weighs, but I would not think it would be almost a ton and a half.

I'm seeing 3122lbs at full height at the pins on the website. I highly recommend having your tires filled. That will take the light in the rear feeling away.

Your bucket is only rated for 11.2 cubic feet, so it should not be all that much weight.

Might be something that you just need to get use to with the new tractor and all.

Good luck.

Although I do not have a 5010, and my loader can only lift 900lbs.... i find that my back end will get light with even half that in the bucket if I'm not running enough ballast. Sure the rear blade will help, but is it enough to offset a loader full of dirt? I know that even on my Max25... with a full bucket and a tool on the 3pt, I still have tendency to get light in the rear.

I would look into a heavier tool to offset the weight, or go straight for some kind of ballast box.

Material from sand to limestone typically weighs 1.1-1.35 tons per cubic yard. I don't know the size of your bucket, but it's probably in the neighborhood of 1/3-1/2 cubic yard. Heaped will be a little more.

You may want to have your dealer check out the hyd pressure to your loader.

MtnViewRanch - you are correct on the weight of 3122, not sure where I pulled that number from in this old brain. I will get someone to watch while I am lifting to see if the tires are actually coming off the ground. I did ask about having the tires filled and will probably do that before winter. The tractor seems to have a short wheel base and the hydraulics are much stronger than I am used to compared to my smaller tractor. I would think a scoop of dirt would not weigh more than maybe a 1000 lbs. and I would not expect that to make the backend feel so light.

It may be just a feeling that I have to get used to as you say, will keep playing. I do love this tractor that is for sure and I have implements that are heavier, will try one of them to see if it makes a difference. I will also discuss with the dealer as suggested.

I would say that the ideal configuration would be a 1000lb implement and filled tires. I went just the opposite of you and started out with a Mahindra 7520 and then added my Mahindra 3215. Bigger tractors are great, but it sure is nice to have a smaller one when needed for clean up.

You will appreciate having both, you can do many many jobs with these machines.

The 5010 front axle is back further than on many other 50 HP tractors, even within the Mahindra line. That makes for a nice turning radius, but when combined with a loader that has a huge capacity, it really must have ballast. Rim Guard adds 1305 lbs with R4 rear tires filled to 75%. Then hang an implement on the back and the tractor feels much more planted.

Thanks for the comments. I wish I would have thought about the filling the tires before I had it delivered. I have a 7x16 tandem axle trailer that is rated at 10,000 GVW, not sure it can haul my 5010. There is a JD dealer about 7 miles away and a large tire store that does farm service about 9 miles away. Will have to check with them to see if they do Rim Guard and if so I might be able to just drive the tractor that far.

What is a reasonable cost to fill the tires?

The 5010 cab is not all that heavy, probably 5200-5500 lbs with the loader. Less than 7k with the tires filled. You ought to be ok with your 10k GVW trailer. I think tire fill cost is somewhat regional, so what we charge in California won't be much help to you, but you are probably looking at somewhere around $500 +/- for 1300 lbs of Rim Guard installed in your rear tires. Takes the dealer about an hour to fill the tires.

Got the rear tires filled and this is a different tractor, it's a miracle!
