I am a big fan of Ebay and have been looking for a mill/lathe there. A lightly used one came up within reasonable driving distance and I won it for $316 (it is a HF cheapo but it is still $1000 at HF). This seller is usually very high on shipping but very reasonable if you pick up at their business so since I knew I was going there to get the mill/lathe, I bid on a bunch of their other auctions. I ended up with a belt sander, band file belt sander, 7" angle grinder and drill guide, all like new for $7.00, a new in box 1 ton chain hoist for $1.81, a Crosley retro cd palyer new in box that is usually $180 for $8.00,a tap and die set for common black pipe sizes new in box for 99cents, and here is where the attachment comes in--a 3 point quick hitch for $15 that looks unused. Needless to say, I am very happy with the deals I got. Gotta love that Ebay!!

sounds like some good deals there, especially the quick hitch, I've never done anything with eBay yet, gotta try to sell something on there.

Frankly, I've had a lot better luck buying items on ebay than selling them. My #1 piece of advice on selling would be to state in your auction that if someone has less than 5 or even 10 feedbacks they have to contact you first to make a bid on your item or the bid will be cancelled. I have had a seemingly high rate of people with bad feeback scores or low feedback bid on items and then never pay or respond to communication after the sale. I had one kid from PA actually buy something and he then gave me bad feedback because he didn't get the item "soon enough" for his tastes. I had stated in the auction that it would be shipped via standard USPS. The second day after the auction closed (which was a Monday and the first day the item was able to be shipped-which it was) he started sending me venomous emails demanding to know why he hadn't received it yet. He immediately gave me the bad feedback and then "offered" me the option that he would withdraw the bad feedback in exchange for me refunding his money and letting him keep the item. Pure little scammer! I was ready to drive 900 miles and deliver his $50 taped to the end of a ball bat but in the end I know that feedback score is everything on Ebay and it was important enough to me that I felt I had no choice but to comply... and Ebay was no help in the matter either...so be careful. On the other hand, so far I have had excellent experiences with over 150 Ebay purchases.

So it's all about that feed back rating then? might be hard to sell something with out any rating.
My brother is into it, he collects insulators and has done quite a bit of buying and selling, so I've heard some stories.

They don't call it the "Worlds largest yard sale" for nothing! I must say I have both sold and bought things off from Ebay and to date I have only had one item that wasn't what I expected to get.

I usually am looking to buy brand name items and higher priced so it is taking a chance, but most people are pretty honest that I have dealt with.

caveat emptor Let the buyer beware!

I've found Ebay to be a good source for manuals for old equipment for example Massey Ferguson and John Deere planters and most recently New Idea drop fertilizer spreader.
