I finally got my deere 300 loader and 5' king kutter tiller. While i had the tractor at the shop I had them work on my light problem They worked on it all day and still didn't figure it out. I guess I will have to rig up the headlights a different way. Anyway, can't wait to try out my new toys.

Gosh darn it.??...Ain't that something.

I'd rather have a flat tire than an electrical problem.:confused2:

Thay could'nt have worked on the electrical problem all day -- any decent tech could diagnose and replace required parts (switches, relays, etc) or, at worst, rewire the a whole light circuit in a few hours, tops....something is wrong with that....

They didn't charge me a dime for working on the lights, so I can't complain about that. I'm sure they aren't the best mechanics in the world because I doubt they make much more than $10 an hour. But, at least they tried and didn't rip me off on labor charges like most places would have.

Likely the boss said something like "You mean you spent all day and you still didn't fix the dam* lights !?!"

When I was new at the mechanic game at a bike dealership, the boss often adjusted my labour charges to reflect my inexperience.

Like HMD said, a lighting circuit is pretty basic, there can't be much wrong with it if the alternator's putting out power and the battery's accepting a charge.

do the same thing - I charge what I know I would take to do the job, not what my lesser expereinced guy might take.....it bad enough that I don't have the time to do all the work in the shop myself at a faster pace....

And this is an issue I take personally as an equipemnt service manager / tech -- I hate to hear customers complain about how much "shop x" charged to do a repair and therefore how expensive it is to maintain their machinery when the fact of the matter is they where in over thier head and charged extra time they needed to "learn" the job they where doing....not to mention the fact that they replaced every part even remotely connected to the job "just to be safe" -- I have other shops order nuts and bolts and major "hard parts", like brackets and crap I have never needed to replace on any machine, from us as parts of job they are doing for our end users.....and they very often the miss critical stuff that ultimately could cause more problems down the road......after 15 years in the same dealer, I could rant on endlessly....sorry, it's been a long week..... :confused2:........
